Feel free to add your stories. Last year fishing in "my" hole I caught an 18" trout. After removing the hook I tossed the jighead into the water and started to string the trout. Next thing I knew my rod was going crazy because another 18" trout hit my jig that I threw in next to me. Was maybe 5 feet of line out. Caught that trout and couldn't believe what just happened. I figured I would never top that but today I did. Was fighting a 17" trout and saw she was barley hooked in the top of the mouth. Most of the plastic was outside her mouth and the chartruese tail was really flapping. Got the fish next to me and took my net and swooped her up. Just as I was netting her another trout hit the lure in her mouth and I had two fish in my net. I admired both trout and l let them swim away and thanked them for making my day. I stood there for a minute thinking about what had just happened and thought it doesn't get any better than this. The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Good story. I've seen trout and reds trying to attack the lure on a fish thats already hooked up. Neat.

last year had a smaller trout hit a top water,as it was thrashing about a much bigger 28in trout ate the smaller trout.

my go to technique for sidelining on the pier is to put out a bait and go at least 100yards away, then get ready to run...

I had 2 cool experiences. One last year and one just a few weeks ago.

Last year I was about 2 miles off PINS and way down by the jetty. Caught a Smack that was going bonkers in the yak. Came off the hook in the footwell, hooked it's tail into one of my loose topwaters, and went overboard with it never to be seen again. Or so I thought. About an hour later, I see something floating in the water and paddle over to investigate. It's my topwater with a Smack tail and big Gafftop head on it. Guess a Shark got the Smack, then the Gafftop got the lure, then another Shark got the Gafftop. The head and tail was light enough for the topwater to float them. Got my tackle back and a funny story to boot.

Just a few weeks ago, I was paddling out to a different spot on PINS. About a mile out I was trolling a free line Mullet. Stopped to take a little breather and get some water then paddle again. Line started jumping instead of the nice smooth pull I had been getting so thought maybe the Mullet hook got hung in the line while it was just drifting and I needed to reel in to undo the tangle. I reeled it in to find that as a Gafftop was taking advantage of the free meal during my brief stop, another Shark had the same idea about the Gafftop. Got him before he could even swallow the Mullet. His awkward head pulling through the water was causing the line to bounce. I never saw the rod move telling me a fish was on. Food chain is fierce.

My go to move for Sharks is to put lines out, then rinse off, baby powder up, put on only pair of dry clothes and lay down to go to sleep. (not that I'm complaining about catching fish)

Craziest that ever happened was fishing and catching Striped Marlin in Cabo and wanted my wife to catch one. We got a hookup but the boat wasn't in a great position and the fish ran at the boat. We were all screaming at the wife to reel faster but the line went slack and went under the boat. It apparently got tangled on the keel so the captain cut the line and used a grapple to get the line to the rod end free. The mate was pulling on the lure part of the line when I saw him wrap his hands with it and braced his feet against the stern...the fish was still on. The captain jumped down from the bridge and tied the fastest knot I have ever seen tied and my wife CAUGHT the fish. I could not believe it.

One time while I was fishing with my dad, I put my rod in the console rod holder (it didn't go all the way in!) to net a trout he was fighting. As I scooped out of the water, my rod (still in the rod holder) went over the edge. I jumped in after it (10 ft deep) and still landed a 18" trout. We laughed all day about it!

When I was a teenager, I went fishing in the Gulf with my neighbor. We were trolling for kings when we got a monster hit. The old rod he had must have been a little rotten and the butt broke off in the rod holder taking the rod and reel overboard. We chalked that one up to the fish gods and kept fishing. We continued to troll the area when we got a strange hit on a Russell lure. We started pulling it up - you guessed it....the line from the first rod was now tangled with the Russell lure. We pulled it up by hand and landed a 40 pound king (still attached to rod 1!) We got the rod and reel back along with a nice smoker.

Back in circa 1978-79, last day of May or first of June, I went on a coast trip with buddy Steve and his Ma and Pa to camp on Rattlesnake Point back in Copano when the Klein's were there. Caught many trout there when one mid morning his Pa said pack it up, rods in the truck, we are going to the surf.
Went to Mustang after a drive and he stopped about 2,000 yards north of fish pass. The sky was high pressure blue, the wind barely a breeze, tide out, surf flat, clear water. Steve's Pa said Mirrolures. We tied on 52m18's. Steve stuck with a red back little 4M. We waded to the second bar. Deep gut to cross but little waves made the second easy to fish from.
His Pa said cast it right over the last bar and jerk and reel hard then then let it sink and jerk it hard and reel. We could see the bar.
We caught probably 50+ trout and know 36 were over 5 pounds up to monster 10's. From one bar to the other you could see your bait move and the huge trout flash and crush the ML's. No Subtle bite and the big trout swarmed around when one was hooked. Anything under about 24 was let go to cast immediately again.
Half of the fish would get off initially but another would slam it at high speed short striking but barely hooking and getting off only to be smashed again and when you brought your trout to the second bar to deal with, it had 5 monsters with it. If it came unbuttoned 10 feet from you, slam! The trout would see us and scoot back out to the third. We followed them to the left and then to the right and then spread out finding and losing them a couple of times but then his Pa finally said let's go. It took the 3 of us to lift all the fish into the truck. There was a gathering of trucks parked just looking at us as we came off the beach.
Sacriledge now but but we went straight back to RSP in Copano with fresh ice and Steve's Pa handed me a knife.

Two weeks ago I hooked the biggest flounder I've ever seen on a pink paddletail on 10 lb test... Go to scoop it up with my wade net and the fish is wider than my net is...fish hits net, fish spits hook, fish swims away... I was so upset I called it a day.
