My new boat was ready Thursday, so I was able to go fishing this weekend. Ended up staying at the Wildhorse Lodge in Rivera for three nights. We had a house full of guys who rarely get to fish saltwater, so they were ready. Overall the fishing was slow, but we managed enough trout for a fish fry Saturday night and everyone took a quart ziplock home.
I tried to find a good bite all over Baffin Bay to the Upper Laguna. We used a variety of soft plastics and caught some nice trout Friday mostly at the mouth of Baffin and north of there. The water looked pretty bad in the back, but we found sand pockets with greenish water and bait in the ULM and that produced. The winds were light on Friday, and really picked up Saturday leading us to find protected water. For a Saturday, boat traffic was very light in Baffin Bay, but Yarbrough was pretty crowded.
I think if we had croaker we could of caught more fish. The fish were around, but the high winds and stained water just made us work a little harder than usual. Hopefully I can get some pics from the guys and I'll post them.

a lot of nice fish were turned in for the tournament...a 27" trout only placed second...a lot of 28" reds turned in with some big oversized and a monster 30" drum was turned in for the win....of course cant forget the big flounder.....all the fish were scattered lol
yall didnt happen to be in the same area as last time and go wading around? _________________

Not sure which last time you are asking about. I stay down in Rivera multiple times per year and fish the Laguna Salada and all over Baffin and the Laguna Madre. The north bank of the Laguna Salada had some nice trout this winter, but I didn't fish the back of Baffin much this last stay. _________________ Grind |

Huge difference between the Majek Illusion and the one deep V pad style boat I owned for the past ten years. I had a 22' Kenner before, and the hull was fast, dry and really good in chop. The only drawback was not being able to run or get up in shallow water. The Illusion is O.K in chop, but if you don't quarter it will beat you up pretty good. The flat hull drops off a wave and pounds pretty hard if you run straight downwind on a following sea. Speed is good with the 225 and the boat handles even better than my Kenner. I ran shorelines when the wind picked up, and we ran and got up in less than a foot of water loaded down with no problem. Plenty of fishing room, storage and solid construction .
I looked at just about every boat on the market, and went went the Majek because I felt hands down it was the best built boat on the market. Not to mention the owner is local and I personally spoke with him about the boat before I purchased it. His commitment to quality shows in the final product, and they stand behind it with an offer to return it to the factory if you have issues.
I can't tell you much about the Slam, but either way you will be buying a solid boat. Talk to Mike at Ronnies... _________________ Grind |
