I had hoped that kayaking in the gulf would be an option this weekend, but it isn't going to happen, so...

I got off work just after noon on Friday (life's tough) so I decided to go out to the property and spend some time up a tree just in case there might be a pig who wanted to go home with me. Ten minutes before six, this little guy showed up and gave me a chance to fling an arrow. I stuck one in his heart, and he went tearing off through the brush. I knew he was hit hard, so I got down to look for blood. Within 10 minutes, I had found him, dragged him to a right-of-way, and got back in my tree.

Three more boars came by before dark, but I didn't connect again. I had two nice toms and two hens come by for a bite before bed, and I hoped they would come in again this morning. FIL and I went to collect them this morning, but they decided to go the other way down the creek, gobbling to me as they went. I guess I'll have to ambush one with my shotgun as they head to the roost later on.

Sounds like you've been there before... Maybe it was all the wind, but this guy was real squirrely. He fed for over five minutes facing me (I timed him) before he ever turned away to give me a chance. Having patience and waiting for the right moment to draw makes all the difference. It also gave me a chance to slow my heart rate down. Archery still gets me going, even for "nongame" animals. Very Happy

This one was archery pig number nine since October! Got some real carnivores living under my roof.

It really is the other white meat!

I wonder what free range grass/corn fed pork chops go for in the big city? Wow, I'm saving a bundle!

Thanks topdog, we do eat a lot of pork. That was my 12th pig since deer season began. The whole family loves the stuff, and the price is right!

Now that the wind's coming down and I can catch Kings offshore from the kayak, the pigs will have to wait... but they need to be careful when the wind comes back up!

I hear ya. Nothing but pork sausage for breakfast at my house for the last three months. And lots of pork sausage for dinner too. You're right about the price and it just tastes better than what you can get at the store.

Y'all must eat a lot of pork, too. Very Happy

We'd eat deer the same way, but somehow they just don't last in the freezer. Maybe because every month more pork shows up but deer only shows up in winter.
