O'k, I know its not real popular, but my mother in law is coming in and she loves Gaftop.... I only have a 19' Kenner, and need some ideas on where to cath them. I have been told the Platforms in Corpus Christi bay, but have never ventured out there, because I know it can get rough in the bay. Is this the only place to find Gaftop?

I never target them, but I have caught a few right across the ICW from Snoopy's pier and Marker 37 at the drop-off. They love live shrimp on the bottom

Fish the station St pier in port a. Don't even need a boat. Use cut eel and you will get as many as you care to clean. Guaranteed to get some

Ive only found it once in Port A. You have to ask the bait stands if they have any for sale. They dont normally keep any in stock but may have some if you get lucky. 99.9999 % of people dont want them nor do they want to even take them off the hook so if i ever see any caught i will always ask if they want it and if not ill gladly take it off the hook for them and throw them in the freezer. My dad likes to fish for gaftop so we are always on the look out if any get caught.

Bo, we use to catch a lot of gaftop in the North jetty's at Port A. We would throw anchor in between the bouy and the jetty's our choice of bait
was Squid and dead shrimp. Some times we would catch a few shark's and Red's in the mix. We had an 18' boat. Good Luck.

Believe it or not, I was pluggin with a root beer shrimp tail in the back bay of Nueces under the birds and I was catching some 5 pounders !!! I personally hate gaftop but it was pretty fun pulling em in on my jet ski and releasing them. This was pre-cold front on Saturday. Good luck
