For the first time in over a week the surf may be down Friday.

http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/corpus-christi-texas.html

Its still a little too early to tell, but I will be clearing my schedule in the event that it starts to look juicy as the week progresses. Just thought I would make a thread for anyone interested in doing the same thing Friday, or something similar.

Ill be there Saturday before sunrise. Going to my new honey hole. Had nine nice 18-20" trout Sunday before last, and plan on doing that again. Hopefully a red or two in there too. <*/)))><

I am watching the window as well. Looks like it might be worth taking a vacation day.

Thinking the near stand off BHP will be where I go. If the driving is OK on mustang island, I may consider fishing around the fish pass jetties or hitting one of the rigs, but only if the sand is good enough for my little front wheel drive hooptie. My new handheld marine radio just shipped today so I should be ready to go.

If the forecast doesn't worsen, I will try to launch from Mayan Princess and hit my usual rigs Friday. The first one is close like the Bob Hall standpipe, but there are other rigs offering nearby options.

Hopefully there will be enough enterest to cover up both spots. If not, I may crash the Bob Hall party.

Prof Salt, I am guessing you hit the beach at access road 2 and head north to your launch spot? How far of a drive is it on the beach before you put in last time? A mile?

Park rd. 2 and go North. I drive until the rig lights all bunch up together, so I paddle to the close one with the others stacked up behind it. It puts you on the beach North of Mayan, but not too far. I usually park near the big boardwalk that comes over the dunes. From the last rig, I can't see the beach Shocked , but I can see the buildings near my truck for a reference point.

I believe that is marker +/-82 on the beach. Those beaches are usually groomed for the condos anyway, so the driving is usually pretty good. Wish I could join you.

Yep, surf forecastalready changing a lot from when I posted. Maybe by the time Friday rolls around it will be over-head swells. Thursday morning the wind may die a bit and it could be a good day for looking for reds in morning.
Might be a good backup plan if Friday keeps looking worse and worse.

Howdy!

I am not that familiar with reading the surf forecast. I see that there are 2 sets of wave heights and periods for certain times and only one set at others. Does that mean there are one or two sets of swells? or is it something like AM/PM?

Thanks for the help.

I have always interpreted it as two different swells coming in from different directions. I always just went with the bigget of the two. On Friday one's from the SSE and the other ESE so I figure you add them together and the swells from the SE.
