As of March 1, 2012, I have officially retired as a fishing guide although my license is still good through early May. My health is poor and my nerves are shot. It's time to take Billy fishing and do some extended walkabouts and let the rest of the world do as they will. I will probably be down island more than ever but not chartering. I will still be writing and will continue my conservation efforts as long as I live but I've baited enough hooks and taken enough hardheads off customers lines in the last 21 years to do anyone a lifetime. As I understand there are several groups attempting to set up guide services on PINS. I feel only one of the three is qualified and when the time is appropriate I will come out fully supporting that individual. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has been my friend and hope that relationship continues. Those who haven't been have my permission not to. Good Fishin'. Your Brother in the Sand. Capt. Billy L. Sandifer

God, how I love computers. Anyhow, it's time to take me fishing and do some extended walkabouts and let the rest of the world do as it will. I understand several are in the process of getting licensed to guide on PINS. It's my intention to support one of these individuals once his paperwork is done. A very sincere THANK YOU to all who have been my friends and I hope that relationship continues. For those who haven't been you have my permission not to. Good Fishin.' Capt. Billy

Those lines could have been spoken by Robert Ruark's Old Man, whom I have always imagined looked just like you. Thank you for being our friend and role model all these years, Captain. Keep sticking it to the Willies-off-the-pickle-boat. Wink

I know you had many wonderful years guiding on the beach, but now you will be able to once again enjoy it for it's solitude, serenity and beauty, without having to worry about get customers onto fish. Enjoy retirement. You earned it.

Thanks, Dad I fixed your first post. Something about the board not liking copy and pastes from Word with the commas and apostrophes.

Enjoy your retirement Capt. I'm in my 9th year and I can tell you that it is real nice to be able to do what you want to do and not what you have to do to make a living. I'm new to this site but have been reading it for some time and appreciated your posts and advise. Please keep that going for us that are new to salt water fishing. Hope to run into you along the beach sometime. Enjoy
