So after some discussion with Joerey yesterday on the water I have a few questions for you yakkers...1. Have you ever stood in your yak to fish and if so what kind do you have?...and B. What kayaks are known for being able to stand and fish in without having to buy stabilizers or stand n'fish attachments? This is future research for a new yak if/when I can talk the wife into it _________________ Fish On! |

I can stand in my WS Tarpon 140. My buddy has an OK prowler, 13' model, just as stable. Its all about your balance though. FOr some people its like stadning on a floating balance beam, nearly impossible.
Before you buy, rent a few models and test them out. I paddled a manta ray 12' from Jerry B's and it was very stable to stand in as well. |

The manta rays are good for standing. The Native Ultimate was by far the easiest kayak for me to stand in. If I can stand up in it, most folks should be able to. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

I paddle a Tarpon 100 and i can stand an dpole around all day long just have to be glassy or light winds.if winds are up there a bit ican stand and drift but cant pole around or move too much...
the jackson cudas are designed to stand and fish, natives are also great for standing but personally i dont like sit insides....
Learning how to stand and pole around on your kayak helps 5 billion times when it comes to sightcasting redfish on the flats in the summer
if you have trouble standing in foot well then stand on the seat...dont try and stand like a surfboard one foot in front of the other...both should be even on the seat and wide...try it in shallow when its glassy haha _________________

i wouldn't consider the native ultimate a true sit inside. More of a canoe/kayak hybrid. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

It also depends on how big your feet are. I do know what NOT to do when you are standing up. Don't look up in the sky. Scott Null said he speaks from experience so I will take his word for it _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Coach check (website) these kayaks out. I have bad knees and makes is very hard to stand up. Twenty five or thirty years ago things may have been very different story. I enjoyed being out there yesterday. Saltymutt thanks for the company. If I ever decide to try it, it will surely have to be on glass just as AT indicated. |

| The Tarpons are great fishing platforms. They are fast and excellent for fishing. Just my opinion. When buying mine it was a toss up between the Tarpon 120 or the Trident 15. Also gave the Ride some thought. Now if the Ride that is out today would have been out 2 1/2 years ago, I would have bought it. Now these (http://www.kckayaks.com/) I want to look at. May give up some speed but gain lots of stability. Something to look at !!! |

Heritage Redfish 12. I can stand in it very easily. It did take some practice, but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to do it. On calm days I can stand on my yak all day. Your first slot red while standing will be memorable.
Oh and yeah I've got a native ultimate. It's easy to stand in as well. Only problem is when the wind kicks up waves can wash into the yak and fill it up. But on calm days, its a very easy yak to stand in. The tunnel hull design gives you a designated place to put your feet and there is less of a learning curve than with the other yak I discussed. However, each have their advantages. |

I have a prowler 13 trident and can stand in it very comfortable. Ive done it. Few times to site cast but can't say I prefer that method. I like to sit side saddle and drift in the shallows looking for tails. I'll stand if I'm deep in a marsh or light house lakes for orientation. Good luck. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. I tried it a few times in my Hobie Adventure in the surf on a flat calm August day (no rods or anything - just out goofing around, thankfully). Flipped before I even finished standing. Tried it two more times, same result. Had enough of climbing back into the kayak so I stopped.
Sucks though, being able to stand sure would help my follow through and distance when its time to release those slot reds. _________________

I heard the adventure is one of the hardest to stand on _________________

Ive never tried to stand on mine, it not being a "big name" brand it is surprisingly stable and has stood the test of time. As some of ya'll that saw me out there on Sunday, I was able to lean out the side of it on a fairly choppy day with no issues at all of stability. Maybe I should give it a shot (when nobody is looking of course...lol). _________________ I like fishies |
