Went to bed last night "on the fence" about fishing. Was thinking IF I went. it would be a day in the surf. Woke up at 0730...made a pot of coffee, went out got the paper (it was cold this AM)...back in bed w/ BIG cup of coffee and the paper. Finished reading the paper and checked the forecast and it looked do-able, so loaded up and off I went bright and early about 1030 Very Happy

Stopped for tacos, another stop for bait shrimp and I was off, dodging triathelete bike riders all the way to the entrance sign at PINS. Stopped short around 3-4 miles down just past the campers.

On the way though saw a bunch of flocks of CORRECTED---"Royal Terns" as well as other "Tern family members Very Happy ...all very cool birds.

Get set up a few miles down, had my piece of paradise to myself, though saw a few beach-rigs plowing south and north, along with the "normal" winter Texan traffic in rental cars and others w/ cold-weather local license plates out for a cruise.

The jeep in position...only moved once and that was four feet up as the tide came up..

A few of these made the day fun.

Had this guy watching me and came in for a few snacks

And a bunch of these, though most were in the smaller though suitable for taco size

All in all a nice day on the beach. Amazing that this is our front yard. Driving BTW was a solid 10. Water was off-color, though was cleaning up throughout the afternoon. Off the beach at about 3PM, saw Nick bombing home while I was cleaning fish prior to leaving. Total boxed was 6 Pomps and 17 whiting. Broke down on the way home and bought a new "Food Saver" at Walmart and put it to good use...

Awesome mess of fish naples. Been a while since I've seen a solid pomp report. TD is right, those aren't skimmers they are royal terns. I saw a group of them yesterday - beautiful birds.

I think you may be right tyler. Royals and caspians are really similar. I don't think juvenile royals have black heads and caspians do? Question for capt. billy.

Nice pomps. I should have stayed in bed and got more sleep. I was on the beach around 7:00. I worked a bunch of spots all the way down to the 38. I only had 3 pomps and 6 keeper size whiting. I threw back 20 or so small whiting. The driving was great except for that one spot around the 7-8. There was a Bronco stuck there when I was leaving. I hope the driving stays good through this weekends cleanup.

There is no size (min or max) or quantity limit on pomps. That said, keep what you will eat. This may be 2 for some or 40 for others.
