I have a traveling set up for HD DirecTv. It worked fine in Austin, but I can't get a signal here.

I have a signal strength meter and a Slimline dish hooked up to a power inserter and from there to splitter, then the B adapter (or whatever it's called on the back of the receiver).

Can somebody help me troubleshoot this problem? Same exact setup worked in Austin. Please PM me. Free fishing trip on my 22" Shallow Sport if we can get it to work!

Same TV? If not, make sure you have the correct HDMI input.

Since it's a slimline dish I'm guessing Directv?

They have a website that will give you the proper azimuth and elevation numbers, which will vary a bit from Austin.

Different tv, but that should not be an issue because I can see strength meters indicating 0 Sig strength on tv screen.

I suspect I have the right azimuth and elevation because I set those settings with the help of the strength meter.

I still need help.

When I installed my DirecTV system years ago, I had the same problem here in SA. I thought I had the dish adjusted according to specs, but I could not get a signal. I finally just moved the dish manually to what I thought was due south and bingo, I had a signal. I switched to TW years later so I can't say if that would work with current equipment, so good luck.

PS Not wanting to be a smart a** but are your cables connected? It's happened to me before.

OK, here's what I did. I adjusted the dish with the help of the inline signal strength meter and maximized it. When I go inside of the house and look at the signal strength meter that the DirecTv box displays on the TV screen, it indicates a value of 0. I can't figure out what's wrong.

try checking where all your connections are, by looking inside connectors and making sure the center conductor is making contact on both sides. i had mine stop working because one side had corroded off and was not making contact anymore.

Do you have the dish set up correctly in the dish setup menu? It's possible that it lost the configuration after being unplugged for a while. The configuration will depend on the exact dish you have, if it's SWM or non-SWM, etc.

If it's configured correctly on the receiver, and you are confident that it's aligned correctly with an unobstructed view it would seem that it's a hardware issue which could be the switch on the dish itself, coax cable, splitter, b-band converter or receiver.

Are you using the same coax? From what I heard you need to use rg60 vs. rg59 which is fairly common.

Let me verify on the coax. I'm at Sprouts right now and can't check.

Taysie: I'm still not home. The test for dtv is to put it on channel 201. I'm not at that point yet. the screen display indicates a signal strength of 0.

If your reading a good signal at the dish and none at the tv then I would think you have a cable problem. Very Happy
