Woke up bright and early, loaded the yak, stopped for a coffee, bought a taco and off to the Port A ferry for a quick ride across. The resident Port A Bull Reds were at the ferry in force to get the anticipation level up for the morning . Got to the launch area about 0700. Started the morning with 10-12 knot SE breeze and fairly good water movement. Paddled out on East Shore fishing the islands and cuts throughout the area. Found one bunch of reds up tailing that blew up on almost every cast w/ a Bone Spook Jr and finally "fish on" in about a foot of water...good fight and a 23" red on the stringer. Kept drifting same area more blow-ups and a few quick on and offs. (really I was practicing catch and release). Moved a little ways and was rewarded with a quick two more---one 23" and one just over 20". These fish were all together in a deep hole mixed in with a huge school of oversize mullet. I am bad with names but spoke and shared the spot with a real nice guy who was fly fishing who had a few undersize reds. Way cool as he had a camera and snapped a few pics w/ me and my stringer. Hopefully the slot fish turned on for him after I left! Great day, back home cleaning fish by 12PM. Guess I know where I will spend Sunday .

Hey Naples,

That was WhiteBear from TKF that you fished with for a while. Myself, LiverDog (TKF), and another guy were fishing farther down East Shore and up on the end of B&R. We caught tons of small trout, rat reds, and 1 small flounder. I think I caught fish darn near every cast from 7:30 t0 9:00am. Then one every 2-3 cast until 11:30. I probably ended up with 10-12 barely keeper trout, 1 20" red and 1 21" trout. All of my fish were released to see another DOA shrimp another day.

How was it on Sunday??? We headed back to Austin after we got in Sat afternoon.

later,
joe

Fished East Shore again today, conditions were not real good, as it was windy (15-18 SE) and a ton of floating weed making throwing topwaters tough. Saw a fair number of tailing reds and muds as I paddled over the top of a number of reds. Still a nice day with a 23" red and a 21" flounder...where was the trout??? The one red I caught really wanted to be caught ---two casts of a bone spook jr w/ 6 or 8 blowups before he ate it. Wish his buddies had been that aggressive!
