This post is for the pomp experts and anyone else interested. I like eating and catching pomps so I am very interested in posts pertaining to the HOW TO's of pomp fishing. I have enjoyed all the information everyone has provided. However, some of the info shared is somewhat confusing. Specifically, how a pinch or a point affects catching pomps. When reading your posts it doesn't appear that you actually fish the structure itself (when pomp fishing) but use that structure to walk out far enough to gain access to the second gut or beyond. Is this correct? If not please explain.
Personally, it would seem almost impossible to accurately pick out the structure spoken of way out in the 2nd/3rd bars/guts. If there is a way I would surely like to hear it.
I haven't caught that many pomps surf fishing. The majority come from BHP and I position myself on the pier between the 2nd and 3rd bar. That enables me to place my baits anywhere in the 2nd gut and in front of the 3rd bar, behind the 2nd bar or in front of it.
I would like to learn all I can about catching pomps. I would love to hear more. There are plenty of pomps to go around.
I envy you guys that are right there at the coast/action. Since I am up here in Killeen (Fort Hood area) it helps to know as much as you can before making the trip.
I especially enjoy seeing pomp posts from Johnny, Tyler, Nick, and Dink. You guys are all a wealth of info and I would like to hear/see more.
Thanks,

Personally, I use pinches and points so I can get my baits as far out as possible. If the fish are closer in than that, so much the better, but I want to cover as much variation in depth and contour as possible until I locate the sweet spot at that time and place. The structure's variability itself also increases the chances the pomps will be there. If conditions (turbidity and tides) do not permit me to find pinches and points, then I'll either just wing it or fish for something else (most likely not in the surf). _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!
