| long rod to get your baits out as far as you can. Roy's sells pomp rigs. Double drop. Smallish hooks. I like 1/0 circles. |

Mine is a Breakaway HDX. My Ugly Stick was not cutting it.
Nick has a selection of surf Rods, including some new ones a lot cheaper than my HDX. Get a Long Casting DVD while you are there.

Can't go wrong with a breakaway HDX for heaving red and shark rigs. It cast 5 plus bait with ease.
That said, I really like my Tsunami for targeting pomps, which is 4 plus a few fishbites on a homemade leader with 4 drops. |

Tyler hit it on the nose!
You have a lot of fisherman that think they need a long rod to get distance but thats not the case. You can have a 13'-14' rod for the surf, but if you can put the power to it it won't suit your needs.
I have had a number of fisherman that find out they can cast a 10'-11' rod futher then a 13 footer because they can get the rod speed and power into the blank.

Breakaway LDX, Daiwa Sealine X20 SHA reel, 20-lb mono line, 30-lb mono shock leader, double drop terminal leader with 2 1/2-oz to 3-oz surf sinkers, 2/0 to 3/0 Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp thin-wire circle hooks baited with shrimp- or crab-flavored Fishn'Strips and a piece of peeled dead shrimp. Get all but the dead shrimp @ Breakaway on Rodd Field (where else?).
Get the calmest and clearest surf conditions you can, hunt for pinches and points at dead low tide, then fish on a rising tide. Pomps usually feed on the far side of the second gut or the near side of the third, so find spots where you can cast to either and try both until you find them. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

i think im the only one who does NOT like to use those big ol rods for pomps. its just to easy....no fight, just crank em in...takes all the sport out of it. wade out with light tackle, now thats the ticket. _________________ "When times are tough,

Yes but a lot of times you have to wade too far to get them. They are great fighters on light tackle if they are in close enough. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Breakaway 10'6" Omega is a friendly rod and doubles as a heavier jetty rod when needed. I find the length more comfortable than the longer 13 foot rods. _________________ Don't let your meat loaf - Cheech Marin |
