223 or 243. Remington 700 youth or a new england firearms. Good Luck. i am not a youth hunter and have no experience in the matter but I think those two calibers and rifles are well suited for the task.

OOPSSS! I thought this was for hunting!!!!!! well first rifle just to learn on then a .22lr marlin model 60, or similar savage. It is not so basic that he will get bored in 10 minutes. They are great first rifles. I bet 1/4 of the people of this board own one or have shot one on numerous occasions!
Holds about 15 rounds semi auto and cost around 150.00

Ruger 10/22 also an excellent choice. Probably the best choice actually. They can be hopped up and modified for a lifetime of entertainment.

I have not be offshore at all. Been stuck at school. I missed a good chance last week with good weather but I was at a 1000 yard shooting competition. I fish summers and shoot winters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

22 bolt action single shot. It's a safe way to start. Start off with shorts then let him graduate to longs. After he has the rules down. Wink

22lr is a great gun i agree a ruger 10 22 is awesome to shoot but i wouldn't recommend a semi auto for learners... get a bolt action its a little safer..maybe look at 22 mag. its got enough power to take down deer(not legal) and pigs without any real kick its pretty loud through. i bought a marlin 22 mag for a little over $200

Get her a Remington 700 in .243. Great first gun and caliber that will last her a lifetime.
