|
|
Long time lurker asks:
It looks like my family's 21st annual trip to PINS is canceled due to the red tide.
I was considering re-routing to South Padre or Matagorda beach near the Colorado river.
Any thoughts as to which location may have less red tide impact ?
We'd prefer the less developed Matagorda beach. |

When are you going?
I will be at South Padre from October 22-29 and will report on conditions once I get there.
Last I heard on another site, there was no problem down there.

Thanks for the info.
I called the LCRA Matagorda Bay Nature Park; they are currently reporting
no evidence of red tide. |

Don't forget about the bloom around Surfside. North winds will push it south along the coast. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Little to no evidence of red tide bloom around Surfside or Quintana Beach as of today. No fish kills in the area. Fishing is slow, weather is funky but red tide is a nonfactor at the present time.

No red tide in the area. Beach looked awesome. No dead fish this past weekend. I was about 11 miles down and camped all weekend. Wanted to hit up PINS but the red tide reports prior to last weekend made me go to Matagagorda. Here is the full report.

The red tide has turned on in East Matagorda Bay, as of yesterday.
Heavy aerosols reported.
Ditto for South Padre Island, Access Road 6 south to Boca Chica. Fresh dead with lots of Atlantic bumper. Same for the Lower Laguna. many, many floaters ahead of todays front (not there yet).
Some big Sand Castle event is scheduled for South Padre this weekend???!!!
So, pick your poison..... |

| Spent Friday (10/14), Saturday, and Sunday on Matagorda beach (north of the Colorado river) with the family. We did not see any evidence of red tide. No aerosols, no dead fish. |

It showed up yesterday at the Nature Park where the Colorado meets the gulf. Heavy airasols reported. And I was going there Sunday. Probably not going now, have to wait and see.
