It's time to renew the cell phone contract and I am not at all happy with Cingular. It hasn't worked at either of the 2 houses I have lived in (one south and now by the bay). It stops working around the PINS visitor center. What vendor works best at PINS. I know that service is lousy down the beach. I know this has come up before, but, my memory isn 't as good as it once was. Don't want to get stuck with another 2 year ontract with poor service.

Thanks for the input!

I was getting roam service at the 30 mile marker with Sprint. The phones themselves have alot to do with reception as well as the provider.

Sprint works for me down the beach a pretty good ways. If I remember correctly we made calls from the top of the dunes at Mansfield Jetties using Sprint service. It was either AT&T or Sprint but I can't remember which now.

With Sprint I get digital to the 4wd sign, then intermently down to Big Shell. From there, intermently from the tops of tall dunes, picking back up on the beach here and there on the way down. Past the 55mm I get regular digital service.

I never go roam for calls.

Several yrs ago I had some boat trouble in the Landcut near the Nine Mi hole chnl entrance and we got Sprint service from the top of the berm on the east side of the main channel and the roof top of a cabin a little farther north. I also had a good phone.

Let me add one more thing about Sprint. Two summers ago when fishing with a buddy on his boat for snapper at the near shore rigs off the beach (about 4 or 5 miles out), my wife called to see how we were doing, and the phone rang. Sure enough, I had 4 out of 5 bars of signal strength.

My Chevy Z71 tranny has been giving me probs. therefore I went to the beach in my wife's suburban Z71 4x4. It has ONSTAR. Wow!!!! Very Happy I had phone service throughout the 60 or so miles of PINS. I sure wish I could get it on my P/Up. It's a 2000 and it was not available when I purchased it, but it sure is handy.

wow, that sucks, I have sprint and live in the bluff but don't have that problem. Maybe it is the phone.

I also live in the Bluff, just west of the High school a ways, and I only get a signal strength of 2 bars sitting in my recliner with Sprint. There is absolutely no Sprint service outside of Paortland, Ore.(you better be in a major city in the Pac NW or np signal). It's pretty agravating when I visit my son there. Even on NAS I get alot of dropped calls, probably from the radio signals on NAS.

just got back 3 weeks ago from pins, we were at the15 mile mark and i was able to call momma each night on my nokia phone with sprint service. i was sitting in a lawn chair at the water, if i go farther down the beach i need to get on a sanddune and my phone will reach out. this is the only reason i went with sprint......

take your phone into sprint and have them recallibrate it....sounds funny but they can make it recognize more towers.....something like that- i did it on my phone and now it gets a signal at the waters edge at pins 15 miles down.......
