Had a great day on the water today Mr. RPool fished with me today and brought some of his very good friends, The Keen Family. I contracted a couple more guides to handle the group, Butch and Aaron, who I fish with from time to time. Rusty and I were throwing plastic and the other two boats had bait, their customers were not very experienced but ready to go. We all had one thought in mind and that was to site cast some fish.
The bite was slow early but as the morning picked up and the wind layed
the bite got better....alot better. It seemed like the drum were everywhere and the redfish schools were mix in. The drum were all caught on dead shrimp site casting ther schools of fish, the trout and redfish were caught on both soft plastic and piggie perch.
Here are some pics, I did't have the chance to take pictures of all the fish but....the total weight for three boats was 276 lbs.
Here are a couple of pictures, I think Rusty has some more and might post them when he gets home.

So if you decide to fish the ULM/Backyard soon, do yourself a favor and take a sack of dead shrimp you'll have a blast site casting the schools of drum.

Mike

Yea D, he took his fly rod but just didn't have any takers on the fly, The schools of drum seemed to be more interested in shrimp and the redfish schools were moving to fast but he did give it a try.

Thanks guys for the kind words we did have a good time, I think this is going to become a yearly thing for this family.

I have a hankering for some FRIED FISH. After the wedding maybe sometime in October. It just sounds good for some reason.

It was an awesome day - thanks Mike. I'm pretty sure Mike and I caught 80 trout on soft plastics and tops. As many of you know, there are a whole bunch of fat 14.5" trout in the ULM - should be something to behold next year. Sightcasting to the reds was a gas and it was a good thing that Mike's trolling motor had fresh batteries and no wind to contend with - those reds were flat out trucking. Really a nice trick to work them gently enough to take a few without spooking them. As for my guests, Butch White and Aaron Loomis put all seven of them on a ton of black drum. I'll bet I fried 80 lbs of fish Saturday night! It was my best friend from high school, Dan Keen (REK's brother and the "brother" from the song "Corpus Christi Bay") and his kids and spouses. Unbelievable weeked - thanks Mike for all. Rusty
