Read my post about yesterday's council meeting. Try to keep from alienating our friends on the city council. We need more like them. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

Okay we had our fun and I agree with Johnny on this one.
I will also change out the logo back to the old one when I cool down a bit after yesterday's vote.
That may be up for a while longer |

Who on the city council are backing us? I'd like to know who they are so I know who to contact on these issues. _________________ You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you with the answer. John Marez has been backing us all the way. Bill Kelly abstained from so much as sitting in on the beach closure ordinance discussions originally because he owns property on North Padre Island. Then, when the ordinance was split in two on the 28th, Kelly began to shuttle back and forth, participating in the debate on the separated charter amendment ordinance, only to disapear again when the debate switched back to the traffic ban ordinance. He posed some sharp questions about the exceptions for safety and other reasons that represent loopholes in the charter amendment, and I believe (can't prove, of course) that those loopholes were why he didn't vote in favor of the charter amendment ordinance, even when Marez did.
Even I am not sure we could live with the charter amendment ordinance as it is, or should try to fix its loopholes with a referendum petition, as we clearly must do with the traffic ban ordinance. To me the deciding factor is that, as the ordinance was worded going into Tuesday's Council Meeting, if we defeat the ban, it nullifies the charter amendment. That being the case at the next meeting, I'd say to the Council: "Fix the charter amendment or we'll petition on both ordinances." If Kelly agrees, I've judged him correctly, and will be glad I defended another ally. If he doesn't, I haven't lost anything by giving him the benefit of the doubt. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!
