Wow, the water was EXTREMELY low in the bay. I fished this weekend hoping to chase a tagged RedFish and ended up walking for miles and miles in HEAVY winds.

I walked across fields of dry oyster and seagrass beds with little water covering them. Wading through seagrass without hardly any water is one of the toughest things that I've ever done wade fishing. It's a lot of work! It's like walking through mud.

On Saturday at around 8:30, because of a late start into N. Padre Island/Mustang Island, I started walking/wading from 281 Near Kate's Hole and ended walking all the way to the Intracoastal spoil islands. I ended up going that far because notta in any great RedFish... just a junior size one. It was fairly easy for me most of the way because I'm crazy/hardcore/stupid, especially with the winds to the back. BUT, on the way back... oh hell, I kept on saying to myself... "Why, why, why?" "I'm stupido!"

Things started going off in my head, what happens if I get nailed by a stingray.... "How do I get help and how will they find me?" "What if I have a heart attack?" "I'm SOL!" The head winds were about 30+ mph. Oh man, the distance was hard enough in the end, but the head winds were ferocious! With every step, the winds kicked up more whitecaps and hit me. During the entire wade distance, I only saw one tailing RedFish and just few stingrays. Not a good sign for all that work. Nevertheless, I see it as a positive thing... I'm alive and I got an INCREDIBLE CARDIO work-out! My calves and thighs are like a rock. Hope I don't get any cramps this week. Ouch!

Well, that was the second time that I had waded that far. What a dumb thing to do, especially alone! The first time, I had thought that I was going to bite the dust. I wasn't hydrated well and started getting cold chills: sign of heat stress. I didn't take any energy foods, so I was de-energized wading all that distance.

I hope not to do this again because the third time may be the last!

WARNING to others: PLEASE do not wade far by yourself. If you do, then please be extremely careful, fit, hydrated (carry liquid, not beer!), carry energy bars, and have contingencies for the what if's!

If you do go hardcore, more power to you. Just catch a nice RedFish!

Glad you were able to finish your wade safely.

I hear you. We drifted through miles and miles (well, it seemed like it anyway) of extremely low tides in the back yard this weekend.

Launching and taking out at Wigglers is almost always challenging, and especially so this weekend.

LOL, no Weiner here!

A person asked how old I was... I don't know why... perhaps I sounded like I was winded? So, I wanted to play a guessing game by posting the pic.

It was for miles wading. I don't know too many at any age person doing what I've done. At least that's what I believe. I'm just hardcore fisherman... nuts at times for doing that.

My determination to keep on going and catch that one RedFish keeps me wading and wading and wading. Nuts!
