My In-laws are coming down this week to visit. My sister-in-law is coming and bringing a friend with her as well and it's spring break for them which means they will want to go to the beach......a lot. My question is that both me and my father-in-law are fishermen and I was wondering if you have any suggestions as far as surf fishing while we're at the beach such Minimum equipment, bait, general tips?

I have already scheduled a trip with Capt. Mike while he's here, but we're looking to get in as much fishing time as possible while still spending time with the family. And, it's hard for me to be by water and not put a line in it.

Thanks for your help!

Well this is just an all around general surf tip. I am in Austin so I'm not sure how the surf bite is right now but you can always call on the live bait or cut bait. Depending of the roughness of the surf you can throw tops for the big surf trout. I'm not sure if they are in but if you have a surf rod, try tossing a cut ladyfish. You can use the fishbiye/dead shrimp combo for whiting and pomps or throw gulps for all of the above. Good luck and tell us how you did.

Don't kill yourself going deep. Fish the guts. I know we are "breezy" this weekend but I have not seen a surf report. BTW, which Capt. Mike?

Weed is bad so fish short with fishbites and shrimp combos in the wade and first gut for whiting, reds, and black drum.

Watch out for jacks and throw an old topwater on a reel with a least 100 yards of 12 lb mono ( 20 is better ) if you hope to catch one.

Thanks for the info, it'll be fun to see what happens.

The trip is with Mike Singletary. Really looking forward to that!
