|
|
There is no excuse for this ever on the beach on the new jetties or any place else. Let's show folks this is not acceptable.
http://nickaway.com/trash06sc.htm
Billy sent these pictures of the beach after Surfcats. As I always say 99% of folks at Surfcats are good folks, it's the one percent that leave trash and waste fish that get the tag put on us as trashy surf fishermen that do donuts and terrorize kids etc.
If they want to continue to have the tournament there ought to be a crew left down south to come north to get the trash if they can't get the participants to clean up after themselves.
I am not singling out the Surfcats it is just that I have pictures of this. It's just that mentality in a few fishermen that think it's okay to leave cans, beer bottles, dead shrimp and fish in places like the JFK Causeway, Light House Lakes, Brown and Root, Oso Bay, the Jetties and the beach. Fine the SOB's so it will stop. This negative trash stuff will get more press than our positive efforts to get 25 to 50 tons we fishermen remove from the beach every year at the Billy Sandifer Big Shell Cleanup.

what can you do ? what can i do ,except pick up their trash after they leave.....after the fact. i really never have tried walking up to a group of beverage drinking you know whats, and tell them, hey! you need to pick up your trash. one who does that ,besides the law, just might end up being part of the spoils left behind. know what i mean..vern?i do my part i leave with more than i brought.its a good policy, its a good citizen policy. and all you have to do is take and extra trash bag.hey, its good for the old waistline doing a little bending over and it only takes a few minutes to fill one up. but i dont go very often.so im just a little help. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Hey Tyler, was wondering if anybody has posted these pics on the Surfcats website? With Billy's pics and a courteus message maybe they'll see our point of view. |

It is sad that a few malcontents spoil the reputation of everyone. Some people have no respect for the things mother nature has granted us. Of course, those are the same poeple that trash the rest of Corpus with litter in the parking lots and trash everywhere. Maybe a letter to the organizers of the Surfcats tourney urging them to make trash pick-up a priority might help (or I could just be niave)! People that do this just lend homage to the dark side and hand free ammunition to the developers to promte their case. _________________ Later,

Surfcats have a lame website, so I doubt the pics are on it.
I also noticed 2 large "fighting" chairs left on the beach, stands and all. My buddy and I were going to load them up and haul them off, even though we were packed full. We didn't have tools to take them apart so there was no way they would fit in the back of my truck. I also saw that awning thing out there.
I think the most annoying stuff is the cans. I saw campsites with cans all piled together. If you take the time to put them in one spot, put them in a bag instead of on the ground. Freakin lazyness. _________________ http://lagunafishing.com - GPS Map/Satellite Imagery of fishing spots in the Laguna Madre

I agree 100% with you Tyler. I took my girlfriend down the beach on Sunday, it was littered with chairs, bbq pits, metal shelters, etc. Not to mention some jackasses in two dodges, one black dually and another maroon one, hauling supple bum doing donuts all over the beach. These are the sorts of things that are going to get PINS closed to vehicle traffic. It seems that these people have the "tragedy of the commons" mentality, "oh well, theres some trash here already, might as well leave mine". This does not only pertain to PINS, but I went surfing on the south side of Packery on Saturday. Looks the way JP luby used to, people sitting around drinking beer, tossing their trash in the sand. I will have no problem ratting someone out if it will help to keep our beaches clean.
It seems that we have a huge problem in Corpus with a lack of enforcement. The TP&W have no problem hasseling people coming out of the port a marina, one trip this year, I was pulled over by 3 different boats within 2 hours. But you can't pay a cop to drop by and check out the jetties or Bob Hall Pier every now and again. There are plenty of guys spearing snook at the jetties, and yet no one reports it. Looks like we are heading in the wrong direction. |

Too true and I will be damned if these litter bugs are going to ruin it for everyone. |

I realize it's worse after surfcats, but it's not just them. I camped once downwind of some peeps at the jetties once. There were about 15 trucks there and I recognized several of them from various websites. That night every few minutes something would go flying by us, big chip bags or various plastics and such. I couldn't believe it. _________________ JJ |

Suggested rules:
1. Each future Surfcats and similar tournament held at PINS shall require
each participant to register his or her vehicle's licence plate number.
2. "Before and after" photographs shall be taken of each participant's
campsite. Before shots shall include the participant and his vehicle, and
clearly show the licence plate number. GPS coordinates will be recorded for each campsite when the photographs are taken.
3. Every participant whose before and after campsite photographs do not
match will have them published and never again be registered in such

| the majortity of them are from SA, they don't give a damn, most probably come here one time a year, for Surfcats. I know most a pretty good, but I agree, the ones that leave chairs, pits, tents, and trash should be fined for littering on Federal Property. That should be a healthy fine. |

We picked up our trash as usual.
I agree with all of you and it is the beach clean up peoples fault for not picking all the trash that was left over. I saw them out there, its there fault. It was also the Red Tide's fault. The red tide has an effect on mexicans and causes there since of emotion to vanish. By the time they where packing up to head back to san antonio the red tide had killed all of their emotional brain cells to want to keep the beach clean. It was also hippie's fault for drinking to much out there. I saw them waving their rebel flags getting drunk and naked trying to sleep with anything that moved. In the morning they where so hung over, they didn't feel like putting any effort in cleaning there camps. They just left.. It's also the liberals fault for teaching the poor people that it's not their fault they have a nontrashing picking-up disorder. I could go on and on and time would fail me to mention everything else vile that happened out there on that awful, cold weary, weekend. I will join your cause corpuschristians, So I protest, I will do everything in my power to outlaw everything that can be considered trash from entering the beach. No longer will food and drink be allowed on the beach. No tent or chair or cooler either. All fish caught will have to be thrown back because it is up to us to maintain that all fish have the right to live and breed no matter how big they are or what the law states. The fish are people too, they have rights too. AND BY GOLLY, we are going to stop complaining and do something about this.
ps. can you corpuschristians post up more fishing reports, the out of towners post there share. _________________ FIRELINE WILL ' GET ER DUN '! |

Saw people with a PVC structure just like the one in the last pic camped in the dunes the weekend of 09/30/06. We were camped at the 26mm and saw a structure just like that on they way out.
Looks exactly like the same campsite because they were parked on the right side of their "covering" just like the tread marks in the pic. _________________ Become a part of the food chain, wade fish.

Why on earth:
1) Does it matter if they're from SA
2) Would you *assume* most are from SA?
Me thinks you have no real idea where they're from and are just making assumptions. So they're mailing address is in SA, big whoop. Or am I missing something about the history of SC? _________________ JJ |
