Some may remember in June of 09' I started a boat build from a set of plans I had purchased. After about 6 months I had to lay off the project for a while. Well I finally got back on it in the later part of this summer.

Here's where I was before resuming work...

Now I've got the tunnel and sponsons in and the hull sanded and ready for the first fairing.

That's all till we get a little warmer weather.

I like it!! You have mad skills D. My boat has a pocket tunnel and sponsons as well. Nice combination for a skiff in these parts, I think. Really, really flat holeshot with no bow rise to speak of and runs sick shallow.

You have a lot more beam than mine I think. Mine's 6'. That looks 7'+?

It is 7'-6" or there about. I needed a beam less than 8' to park it in my back yard. Still will have to modify my trailer. Total length will be 18'-4" I think. Should weigh less than 1000lb less motor. Plans say 800lb but I added to it.

Very nice to see you at it again Don, it looks great! Cool

Don't be shy on dropping me a PM if I can help out on anything. Having said that, it looks like you have matters well in hand!

What are you gonna power it with?

I have an older 140 Evinrude so I'm thinking I'll get about 125 hp at the prop.
Plus I have 2 extra power heads and lower units.

Dave that's the PH18.

Man Don, you must like living on the edge!!!! Shocked

" The ideal engine is 70 or 90 HP but some builders installed engines up to 125 HP. With a 70 HP, she will go faster than a fiberglass boat of the same size fitted with a 125!"

"Lighter yet stronger thanks to the composite materials which translates in a faster boat with better fuel economy: a 90 HP pushes her at 50 mph. Most fiberglass boats require at least 125 HP for that level of performance. "
Shocked Shocked Shocked

Don, I don't know what you already have for fairing but I may be able to save you HOURS and HOURS of time. Use a sheetrock mud spreader where possible, and the smaller metal body putty spreaders where needed for space. The latter can be bought at any auto paint store.

Stay away from plastic or rubber spreaders buddy. They flex into the void, removing as much goop as they put down!!!! Embarassed Even using metal, the surface tension of the putty mix will leave a concave surface behind the blade, meaning that you'll need to fair all surfaces at least two and usually three times to get them full. Wink

It's also saves loads of time grind all glass tape edges down to a slight taper and basically run the grinder (held flat) over all surfaces BEFORE you start fairing. This makes a much smoother/lower base to fair from, taking less putty mix, less filling time and less fairing time.

I'm talking a 4"-5" grinder here, with a 36# pad. If you don't have one, GET one.......................... another HUGE time and BACK saver over larger grinders!!!! Shocked Embarassed

I'm jealous not to be on the water but here's my excuse.
The latest progress on the boat build.
First it was painful to take the pics due to a run-in with a yellow jackets nest.

Wanted the ladder to get an "aerial view"

Finished the reverse chine along the hull edge

and strakes and tunnel is finished along with the boxes

ready for final fairing

view of the bow

As everyone knows it's been hot and for me the going has been slow.
Hope to finish the bottom when we get a little break from the heat so I can flip her over and finish the inside. D.

The boards work good. My arms are going to fall off one of these days.

Thanks for the compliments guys, some day rides will be forthcoming. Very Happy D.
