First post, been around for yrs. Spent last 8 days in SPI. Fri fished jetties
from 7a-830a, water gin clear. Caught 5 bonito within 50 yds of shore. Fish were 7-10 lbs, all caught on gold spoons, 12lb test, 10-15 minutes per fight. Noon went north to fish surf. 1 jack hooked ... 1 jack losted. Spooled. Rerigged, caught 1 bonito standing in 3 ft water, 12 lb test again & 15 min later, beached. Got picture of the one on beach, will post pict later. Awesome Fri. never caught bonito that close in. Way too much fun. Pray for our Gulf....FISSH

was the weed bad down south? I just got back from matagorda the sharks were there. I had sharks on 7 different times and lost all of them. I got 3 of the almost to the beach. One straighten the hook he was about 6 foot long. The others I guess the shells cut the lines. I must of had 20 pick up the baits and run about 20 foot and drop the bait. Caught a few gaptops and two reds both oversize. The first 5 miles of the beach had lots of old seaweed in the water. I was down at the 11.5 miles and pulled 2 pieces of weed off line. I want to go to spi if the weed is not bad. One more week of vacation.

Weed was thick but fishable , stationary surf rods almost impossible. Weed held lots of bait fish which probability the bonito followed in.
