Wife and I took the boys to the beach yesterday evening for a little fun in the sun. My four year old was determined to fish; therefore, I had to honor is request. Boy, was it tough.

I was about shin deep in the surf throwing out a line, when in an instant, something slams into the side of my foot. I do not mean a causal bump either. Jesus was not the only one that walked on water.

I have been hit before, and it is by far the worst pain ever expereinced. As I just about fell on top of the tire sized ray, thoughts of "Crocidile Hunter" entered my brain. I could see my chest landing right on him.

I am no expert, but after hitting or running into me, that sucker turned with tail and barb swinging in my direction. I think that my foot being above my head about that time may be what saved me.

I do not know what caused him to engage me at full force, but it was enough for me to retreat to ankle deep water the rest of the evening.

You guys and gals be careful out there as every time I have been to the surf this year there seems to be a lot of "extras" lurking in the water.

We were down this weekend and camped about the 8mm. Around 11pm. we decided to check out the surf to see what was washing up and since the surf was so clear, see what lurked in the shallows.

To our suprise, it was wall to wall stingrays in 6" to 12" of water. They were so thick some were almost laying on top of eachother. If you're going to venture into the surf after dark, shuffle your feet or better yet, just fish from the sand. Some of them were at least 36" across.

Be careful and see ya on the sand,
SportFisher
