| May be going a different route and getting rid of the steering cable. What are the major differences between Seastar and Baystar other than price? I know the Seastar is rated for higher horsepower engines but as far as components go what are the differences? |

I have only run the Seastar Hyd steering over the years. I have had to replace the seals (O-rings) from time to time but other than that it's not very hard to put on the boat.
Be sure and check the warrenty on both. I think the Seastar is a 2 year warrenty.
I think the oly difference is the Seastar is for larger horsepower motors
and the hydraulid cylinder is bigger with a larger ram.

Had to make this choice last summer to finish my rebuild. As CG said its about how much HP you are steering. Both are made by Teleflex. The Bay Star is less expensive because it is not expected to hold up under stress of bigger engines. I had to choose the SeaStar to turn my 225. If you need a source let me know.

The motor is a 2001 Honda Fourstroke 130HP Somebody else told me the baystar uses barbs and clamps for the fittings on the hoses, but for the $300 difference I can go get hoses made and still be ahead with the basystar kit. I found the Baystar kit online from $439-$500 I called Gulfcoast and they wanted $800 for the Baystar and close to double that for the Seastar. |

$800 is the price I paid online for the Sea Star. A local marine dealer (to remain nameless) charged me $425 for a rotory cable system. I was young and dumb. Any other hardware I needed came from the NET.
