I have one of the Shimano Trevala jigging rods. I got it after watching Rocky sell one to Old salt and seeing how powerful, light and thin it was. It rocks! I use it to toss out pony mullet for Blacktips too.

Thanks for the tips guys! Crap, for the money and time involved I may just buy one of those rods instead of building one. After all, the blank is 99% of the package.

I would wager that those butterfly jigs and the technique would work at least as well as most other fishing style for inland stripers, something that I DO have up here!!!!!!!! Cool Wink

Tyler, what weight/power/rod model did you get? What reel do you use with it?

I have the "heavy" Fin Nor with mine the 7500 OS. I have it loaded with 100lb power pro. The rod is the 5'8" Trevala TVS58XXH rated for 170 to 270 gram jigs and 80 to 200lb braid. Mako caught a Yellowfin on it tossing a topwater also!

What a coincidence on the Fin Nor................................ I have been researching them. How do you like it and would you buy it again or get something different?

For the money and for as often as I go Tuna fishing, I love the Fin Nor. Yes it is heavy but all big spinining reels are heavy plus you can lock the drag down up to 40lbs. Old Salt and Rob, and another friend of mine have that same combo and would probably tell you the same thing.

Thanks for the great info! I was looking at other offshore spinners last night too. The Quantum offshore spinners look great for the price................ I was particularly interested in the ceramic/carbon drag discs. Should really dissipate some heat!!!!! Shocked

I believe most Quantum reels have the carbon/ceramic drag washers.

I have an "Energy" reel that's over 10 yrs old that the drag started getting very jerky and was surprised to see the washers were the carbon/ceramic type and not the cheap looking soft felt type that most manfacturers install in their reels (even Shimano).

The washers are supposed to be installed dry and they work but eventually over time it becomes sticky. I put a thin layer of Cals greese on the washers and now they are so smoooooth like a babies a$$. It also feels like it increased the drag capabilties. Cool

Thanks for the link Beachbum. I bought a Trevala rod, Trinidad reel, and some butterfly jigs last year and really like the combination. Looking forward to using them this year.

http://www.super-lube.com/synthetic-multipurpose-grease-ez-49.htm

This is GREAT stuff, but hard to find at times. It never gets hard and dried out like petroleum based greases either. Super for drag washers, reel gears, etc.
