| Anyone know if the Red Snapper are off the Texas coast (within 8 miles or so) this time of year. Someone told me they move in during the winter time. I thought it was BS but figured I would ask around... Thanks for any input. |

Lots of Snapper hanging around all of the state water rigs. Some pretty nice ones actually. Our Red Snapper fishery is in excellent shape. _________________ Capt. Ross L. McElwee

Just be sure you don't head into federal water after you catch any red snapper. |

At some of the nearshore rigs you can't hardly get a bait past all these "endangered" red snapper. We were bringing up 2 at a time on some drops over the holidays. Problem is finding them >15". Hopefully all those 12-13 inch ones we caught have had their growth spurts
Anxious to get out there myself.

Don't know what kind of bait you were using, but, try doubling the size of bait to get to the bigger snapper. The little snapper are more agressive and will get to the bait quicker than the larger ones. Putting on larger baits givet the larger snapper time to move in and grab on. Works for me on Trigger fish as well. _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

My favorite bait is ribbon fish. You can cut it to the size you want and I have also caught some grinder snapper trolling/drifting using whole ribbon fish hooked through the lips behind a large bullet weight. If ribbons are not available almost any kind of cut bait can be used. The tougher the skin the better. Bonita and jacks also make great bait, but the small sharks like them too. _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

| I agree with the above... any bait works!! I usually run about 30miles offshore. out of bait within a couple hours and start using blue runner or my snapper bellies! |

Is it possible to catch your own Pogies or do you have to buy them? _________________ HighTide
