just wanted to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving. I know it's not quite that time in the states, actually it's the night before here but I know that tomorrow I won't have time. I was glad to get back from another deployment for thanksgiving. Hope you all have a nice one and hope to see some of you guys when I get in for Christmas leave. _________________ still chasing my 30" trout |

So whats on the chow line menu for Thanksgiving. We would have steak, lobster, and turkey. Actually the good Navy could throw out a spread when they wanted to. HAPPY THANKSGIVING MARCUS, and to all your shipmates. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Believe it or not, Alaska is known to have wild turkeys just outside of Ninilchik. *The birds were illegally introduced years ago, and are still known to inhabit the area. How many home-sick Texans residing here would love to catch a salmon, put the tackle away and grab a shotgun and hunt them, all-the-while using techniques we learned back in our home state? I know I would, being the birds are an invasive species and legal to hunt year-round! (* Since J.F. avoids me like the plague, I offer proof:
http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/showthread.php?t=64414&highlight=turkeys ) (scroll down half-way)
I've raised my own broad-breasted bronze turkeys in the past. Ever seen a 40 lber, grown from the similiar white-breasted genetic stock you buy in the grocery store, as commercially-grown, but allowed to grow plumper, as domestically-raised? I do, too!...but that is another thread!
Nah...Instead of starting another thread I will give ya a glimpse into what I wrote back in June 2004 to my private family site, in an effort for others to become tickled at me raising my own Thanksgiving Dinner:
[...]
"Here is a picture of a seven year-old girl feeding her flock of Broad-Breasted White turkeys, the most common, commercially bred turkeys one finds at the grocery store around Thanksgiving and Christmas time...Notice the size of the pretty white turkeys?!
http://www2.dmci.net/~milknhoney/hrbturkeys.JPG
The Toms in the picture weigh 40 mouth-watering, foot-stomping, fork-against-the-glass clanking, table-thumping pounds too! ...Now take a deep breath, sit down and rub your eyes in bewilderment over the size of a fully dressed turkey, after 8 hours of basting and baking: http://www2.dmci.net/~milknhoney/famturkey.jpg "
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
P.S....Cowboys game is scheduled 3:15 yer time...I get it at noon! < Now pass the stuffing and gravy...Oops, guess it's too early to have it done in my time zone! >

Whitefolx,
I didn't want to hijack the thread - so I offered a brief history of either knowing of my cousin encountering the turkeys in Ninilchik, or me raising the yummy birds in a certain setting, at a certain time.
Keep this in mind:

And, upon viewing, enjoy your meal! ....That was my last batch of turkeys I raised, from a week old. Oh, my!
And have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Marcus, with any future friends you'll meet on this site. |

it was a good time and with a good spread. I fried two turkeys and the wife made a big spread including a wonderful ham. I invited a big group of the guys that live in the barracks over. We ate, drank, and played some Texas Hold'em. I did it last year also and it has seemed to spread, this year there were six or seven get togethers from my squadron so that the guys who are without their families could still enjoy the holiday with the family we do have over here. Thanks for all of the holiday wishes.
PS,
Corpus is the first stop when we are home so I will do my best to make rounds and see everyone.
Happy Holidays,
