I have 2wd truck and am toying with the idea of getting either:
a 4x4 or a Powerboat
opinions?
i know some of you guys have both
which have you got more use out of with the family.
i have 4 kids and they love the outdoors so was just wondering
are boats more maintenance/trouble than a 4x4? |

lol!!
Man
tough one..
As far as costs.. well after initial costs the boat will probably cost you more.. But who am I to say my truck has been parked for like 2 months man its giving me heck I gave up on it.. But my boat.. I love it and take it out as much as possible.
Now on the 4wd.. Well you are going to take it to the beach expect wear and tear.. My truck is going to need some serious rust treatment now that I have the bed off to replace the fuel pump.. And I ALWAYS wash the heck out of my truck when I get of the beach.. You just cant get everything.. I wouldn't buy a new truck though for just a beach one.. I paid 7000 for mine a 3/4 ton 2500 Chevy its really been great this is the first problem I have had with it in 2.5 years..
Now your truck well its only going to get you down PINS. do you really want to go down pins?? You can take your 2wd pretty much to almost any other beach. If I was you and you already have a truck id get the boat. You can use the 2wd to hit up pins on low tide north of 5 mm or go to any beach up and down the island. they are all as productive and if you go on a weekday your alone.. The kids will have more fun on the boat. I promise you.. Kids LOVE boats.
Good luck in whatever you decide.. both will cost you $$$.. |

Some famous boat philosophy:
the two happiest days in man's life:
the day he buys his boat,
the day he sells his boat....
that being said, I'm on boat number four (but one was stolen)
A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into....
Fish by the pound:
HEB-$5.99
Laguna Reef/Snoopys: $9.99
With a guide:$25.00
In your boat:$50.00-$100.00 _________________ Johnny D

I have pretty much always owned a truck. The funny thing is when someone needs to move something they always call me. So I use the same philosophy, I call up my buddies anytime I want to go fishing on a boat. Now I own a 4X4 and I have been to places my 2wd's coulden't take me. Especially to those hard to get to fishing spots. One of these days I'm sure I'll buy a boat. But in the mean time I sure love driving down PINS! And if we could just get some good rain I'd sure like to go muddin! _________________ When the going gets tough, the tough go fishing... |

| If you fish more than once or twice a week to me it's a no-brainer....BOAT. If you don't get out often probably the truck. |

Do you have a ranch/lease to hunt?
Are your weekends already busy, and can you easily take time off during the week?
If you have other outdoor hobbies than just fishing, the 4x4 is probably the smarter move.
If you love fishing and can make time to use your boat regularly, then the boat is the better move.
Even though fishing in your own boat is usually very expensive for what you catch, just the drive/boatride out on a cool, calm day is awesome. With kids involved, you gotta go with the boat. When we're all old and close to being gone one day, all we really have is memories of what we did together. Get out there and make some memories. |

Boat. Offshore. Doesn't have to be a big one--Just dependable and deep V. But be warned, once you go out there, you will never be the same. I let somebody talk me out of an offshore boat and into a bay boat and I kick myself in the butt every time I see seas over 3ft. I love trout, redfish, drum and flounder but nothing beats the feeling of a fish you cannot stop and have to chase!
