I’m mainly a bait the hook and throw it out and wait type of guy. Not much into lure just yet. Would like to get into trout and red drum fishing using a popping cork. What is a good rod and type of rod. I have looked at med action, fast and very fast action. Any good advise on these type of rods for popping cork?
Thanks |

most of your normal bay rods will do for fishing a popping cork. if you're into bait and corks, you might want to try a gulp shrimp on a jighead under a cork. very effective and less expensive. good luck _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

My preference for a popping rod is 7 to 8' medium heavy, fast taper, 17- 20 lb test range with a 10" butt. I want a long distance cast and plenty of backbone to work the popper and hook set. I also want a fast retrieve spinning reel in the 3000 to 4000 size range.

For a rod anywhere between 7 and 8 foot my 6.5 ft rod really didn't cut it. My input is on the line. I had two identical rods and reels the only difference was line. Braid and mono...I don't want to open a can of warms here but the braid made the cork pop alot better I am pretty sure it was the type pf mono I had but it had to much give and just pulled the cork as oppose to popping it. I use a mid-coast popping cork and it sounds pretty good. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |
