Gents,
I here so many things good about the new side image units.
Do any of you have one of these units on your boat ? I have been told they are not very good in salt water or in shallow water.(2-4 feet)
Just looking to this forum for some real close to the hook info. |

Got a Humminbird side imaging unit for Christmas. Because of the weather , I haven't been able to play with it but 4 or 5 times since I got it. The only drawbacks that I have found are that you have to go slow (2-6 mph) and the water can't be rough because side to side motion distorts the picture. And yes, the images look like blue and white pictures. I have used it in both the bay and nearshore. In the bay, I'm still not sure what I am looking for but I see pilings on piers and bridges very clearly and you can see the contour of the bottom and drop offs. When I go out of packery of course I am looking for wrecks and try to get an idea of what the rigs look like under the water. I have yet to find a wreck, but the rigs show up clearly and you can see fish suspended if you have it set just right. I really like the depth finder on the unit and the GPS works great too. Make sure you get the Navionics chip. I can't wait 'til summer so I can REALLY play with it. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any specific questions.
