Has anyone used these reels or to be exact the G50HS. Would these be good in the surf? This model holds 420/20lb and has a 6/1 ratio.

Absolutely. However, these reels are best used as trollers and probably will be better used if baits yaked out. These are the ones Mark Sosin uses on the Saltwater Journal TV Show.
