Well about this same time last year I pulled a small snook out of this area and was quite suprized and for the past couple of years I swear I had seen tarpon rolling. None bigger than say four feet but never hooked into till recently. I was tossin a roadrunner for white bass on the ultralite (kinda it was 15powerpro just in case) when all hell broke loss. Well after about ten minutes of chasing and stayin calm I caught my first tarpon. Not big but exciting to say the last. After that I stopped using that rod and ended up jumpin 5 more with one pushin the 4ft mark. A couple threw the hook and the rest simple just stole my lures. last pic is not that good but it was the best I could do by myself. And since they havent been there the past couple of weeks I feel safe sayin if you cant tell from the last picture its the Nueces river.

You would be surprised just how many small tarpon are up the Nueces River.
Have hauled a few out of trawls in the area between the upper Railroad trestle and the IH37 overpass (snook, too!!). But be careful, as the trawl-monster lives in that same area, and I have also lost more than 1 trawl in there. |

Still searching for one of those myself. Nice Catches! Those trips make you go back time and time again. Awesome! |
