The day was planned following a discussion about the true meaning of Team Kingz Sr Division. George covers his advanced age pretty well, though once in a while you catch him showing his advanced age....

Last night was one of those rougher moments when his true age peeked through Shocked

So we decide a day of casual paddling was in order to help George restore his youthful vigor, as he was sure to school this Jr member of the Sr Division...or so he thought. Many know that I have had an absolutely brutal summer (and early fall) with an abysmal catch rate on most trips, though last week I made a sacrifice to the MoJo gods, releasing a 25-26" trout (largest "intentional" release to date). Today, though no barn burner was my now not so new T-160's first "limit" of reds! Maybe the by-ahead last week made a difference.

So the day starts out with dropping my wife off at the airport at 0515, a quick stop at George's and then the all important fuel stop at the taqueria in AP for a heart stopping chorrizo & egg w/ bean and bacon taco. We are on the water by around 0630, stopping on the drop for a few trout, all released (some intentionally, some not so intentional). We slid in closer to the shallows, and I managed my first red on a bone Spook jr. This fish came off the shoreline w/ big v-wake humped up and ate it solid! Also had a few other blowups, along w/ a couple rats and dinks. George decides to cross over into the skinny stuff that was really skinny today! I continue a drift w/ the north wind, until a PB anchors right in front of me, and I too decide to go skinny. See a few fish, though no joy...Paddle further to the SE, and join up with George who is also seeing a few fish, though no takers. Keep sliding to the south and the water is now really skinny and we both start seeing a few with backs out of the water. Real cool as I get on one that is high and dry in some grass fairly close to the shoreline. Stake out and get within a 30' feet of it, and throw a weightless/weedless paddletail at it 4 times w/ no success---5th time was the charm as it totally crushed it, and then just wallowed around close, only taking a little line though tough to get him in hand...finally succeeded, and strung #2.
They are plotting their escape from captivity..

Now the hard part for me lately...where is #3?? Took some more paddling, but we both got into some good pot-holes that were holding scattered fish, both reds and smaller trout, where George quickly got on the board w/ two nice reds on "Gulp!", while I proceeded to watch...and finally switched to Gulp! NP, and nabbed my 3rd one.

Also broke off two more, one where the flouro broke midway (maybe a nick?), and the second time the loop knot "loop" broke though the knot was intact Mad Never managed the needed 6th fish to complete our double limit, but all in all a nice "Casual Paddle". Fun day on the water with George "leading the way" to a good catch...I'm guessing he "let" me catch a limit as an act of charity so I could start rebuilding my fragile self-esteem... as a final act of charity I starred in the dead fish photo op (hmm...where is the 6th one G? Confused )

Note two floats (two stringers, two kayaks and a mystery photographer)---2 anglers --- 5 fish...legal and then some!

Great report John, those waters sound HOT!
I also like how you caught all three with something different each time.
