Took my son and some friends down the beach Saturday. Caught two of the biggest smacks I've ever seen and a couple of sharp nose. The first fish of the day was the highlight of the trip. 20 lb king caught in the first gut no more than 30 yards from shore. That was a first for me. We've caught several 200 to 300 yards from shore, but never one that close.

Awesome. How far down were yall? Saw one jump on the other side of the first sandbar at the north sticks chasing shad. What was the bait of choice?

That is great! I wish I had gotten out there this weekend but three fishing trips in one week would ruin my no fishin reputation.

We were close to the 15 and an 8" mullet was the bait of choice.

Great catch! I thought Big Irv's king in the wade gut a few weeks ago fishing with Capt Billy was rare but I guess PINS is on fire! Awesome to see the kingfish within castin distance from the sand......

Went down Saturday also, fished around the 12. Girlfriend caught big whiting one after another that where 14" plus, a bunch of small jacks, and all kinds of skipjack. I swam about a 16" skipjack out just past the third bar and that soaked for about an hour before a 52" king picked it up. First King I ever caught in the surf. The water was beautiful and the surf was so flat it was unreal. Had a great day down there also.
