High water, a stiff west wind, blowing grass and choppy water on the flats. That's what I found when I arrived at my launch point this morning. Seen this before this time of year and knew where I wanted to fish, but a few fellow yakers were near enough the spot that I didn't want to offend by seeming to barge in on them. Okay...truth...they weren't catching anything and I did not want to give the 'honey hole' away. I paddled away thru the chop and tried some different locations without much luck. Some small reds and trout and one very large stingray on a 'gulp' shrimp. About 11 o'clock paddled back around and saw that my 'hole' was clear and moved right on in. The reds were in the hole. Put three on the stringer...practiced catch and release on a few more and was back at the truck by 12:30. I did have a large 'bull' on for about 5 minutes before the hook pulled free. Self release saved me the trouble.

Putting in the hours and miles exploring territory in different conditions paid off again.
