Coming soon. Man did I luck out and get invited to fish a private lake in north Kentucky this afternoon/evening. This may be considered a pond(5-7 acres), and the guy who owns it told me that he has near world record Bluegill stocked in it. The world record for Bluegill is 4lb-12oz, and the Kentucky state record is 4lb-3oz. He tells me that he regularly pulls out 3-4 pounders. I don't know anything about these fish but from my research on the net I have found that they are the cream of the crop in panfish. I do know that I have caught many Pompano in the 3-3-1/2 lb class and that is a pretty stout fish. To make it even better, we will be fishing the way old school way with cane poles and using live night crawlers for bait. I think my wife is going to buy me a straw hat so I can have the total Huck Finn experience...LOL Another great thing is that since it is on private property, I don't have to buy a Kentucky fishing liscense which is good cause we've been spending money like crazy for the last week. Anyway, I will post the results when I get back home this evening but my sister in law left her digital camera in Tennessee last week so I am going to buy a disposable at Wal Mart and bring it back to CC. This is going to be so cool...
later,
Ernie

P.S. Note for Skipper and all other true Flour Bluffians...The Wal Mart in Florence Kentucky on the Ohio border has FB stout for $5.18 a twelve pack. We watched the Bengals play yesterday and cristened the Edgewood country club "Flour Bluff North"...LOL

Eat a sack of White Castle burgers for me while you are there. There is a Bass Pro Shop near Cincy if you get bored.

Just got back to the house and we tore them up bad. I haven't counted them or weighed them yet but there are probably 20+ Bluegill in the ice chest and all near 2 to 2-1/2lb. Man that was a blast. We were using 12' cane poles with no reels on them, about 10' of 20lb test and a bobber with a small J hook on the end. We were breaking Night Crawlers into about 1" chunks and just walking the shoreline and lobbing the bobber into the water near fallen trees or any kind of overgrowth or structure in the water. And bam, bam, bam. I am going to borrow my sister in law's camera phone in the morning and email a pic to Tyler.

HERE THEY ARE VIA TT

Ernie

When I was fishing fresh water I was a perch jerker. I did not go after the large mouth bass.

I almost lost a good size sunfish (Perch) but thanks to my saltwater back ground I was able to land it. I was using 6 lb test line.

If you landed a 1 (one) lb bluegill you fought a fish that beats any largemouth bass. regardlus of it's size.

They are some of the best fighting fish to be found at a lake. Have fun

They call them sunfish here also. The guy (Gerald) who owns the land with the pond told me that they also go ice skating on it in the winter when it freezes over and ice fishing as well. The depth is probably 25 feet in the middle and the fish go there in winter. This pond is 55 years old and has some large mouth bass as well. He caught one yesterday that was mabey 4" long but looked like a mini version of what Bill Dance catches. The girls had a blast and Allison caught one Bluegill that went about 1-1/2lb. Sarah caught 3 or 4 going 2 to 2-1/12lb and I caught the rest, mabey 15 fish. I was wearing my Team Breakaway T-shirt for good luck, and as a Froghunter tradition, I didn't brush my teeth yesterday Shocked It's a down south camping thing!! As soon as Sarah Leigh wakes up from her coma..(we closed down TGI Fridays last night in town), we are going to Wal Mart to get me a cheapo fillet knife. As soon as her sister wakes up I will get her camera phone for a pic or two. I'm thinking I may have about 10 pounds of fillets and am wondering if I can take them on the plane back to CC. If not, we will have a fish fry tonight. we're back on the jet tomorrow about noon and back to CC. I'm sure going to miss this place, but will be back for Christmas and ice fishing..and mabey a Bengals game at the stadium..These people are SERIOUS about their football here. Very Happy

congrats on the trip. we take football and basketball serious in KY, We have a lot of ponds that have some HUGE largemouth bass but I woud take the ocean anyday over pond fishing but that's because i only get to go twice a year. I take my son to a private pond andhe routinely catches 15-20 bluegill and hour and 4-5 lb cats
