Need help with stranded black dog on island in bay (Corpus Christi Bay)

I know this sounds like a strange request, but we were fishing in the bay over the July 4th weekend and saw a black dog - appeared to be a small shephard mix - on an island near marker 25 in the inner coastal channel.
We tried to call it but it wouldn't come to us even when lured with food. It did have a collar and tags though, so at some point it's had human contact. We came back the next day and he was still there.
There was no boat docked on the island or anyone nearby so I fear that someone abandoned him there or somehow he swam the 2+miles from the main land?
Even though we left him a big bucket of water, I don't think he'll survive long on his own as there is no fresh water on the island.
I've contacted animal control in Corpus, the Humane society and the Parks and Wildlife and everyone is passing the buck and saying it's not in their jurisdiction to trap the dog.
Meanwhile, the dog is dying without water and food.
If I lived closer, I would trap the dog myself, but I live in Austin and can't get there easily.
So - I'm appealing to you to help in this matter. I want to call the news agencies to report this and how unhelpful the authorities are being about this, but I need to make sure he's still there. If anyone has a boat and is fishing or will be in that area, can you please keep an eye out for him and let me know if he's still there. If anyone can trap him, I will help with finding him a home here in Austin.
The exact coordinates where he was last seen are: go north from channel marker 37 (which is near the JFK causeway by Billings bait shop) to channel marker 25 on the inner coastal. On the east side of the channel, there's a duck blind about 1/2mile east of the channel. Just north of the duck blind - a hundred feet or so - there's an island (it's actually a bird sancturary). On the south part of that island - the part close to the duck blind - there's a small hill and some bushes/trees. He hides under those and wanders the beach looking for food. We left a big bucket of water there - which is probably dried up by now. There was also a blue cooler that washed up in the same area. He (or she) is very fearful and won't come if called or lured with food. I think he will have to be trapped.
If you've seen him recently or if you have a boat and can help me trap him, please let me know!
It's so sad anyone can be so cruel to another animal, but it's even more cruel that I can't get the authorities to help me.
Thanks! |

has this been sent to one of the news channels, or to the gulfcoast humane society. Does anyone know if the dog is still there. it would be bad to know if it starved to death or died of thirst. Its bad enough the message didn't get out sooner. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Very sad... I just took in an aprox. 8 wk. old stray dog (pointer/lab mix it looks like) and a stray tabby kitten two weeks ago. We now have a puppy yelping in her kennel all night long, and peeing on our carpet, but I guess I have a heart for animals. It's sad that folks dump these animals off, but they do. Hopefully someone will rescue that dog and give it a good home....No vacancies here, were full Thanks for the post guys, and let me know if I can help. _________________ Grind |

I got a buddy who was going out to get it yesterday afternoon. Haven't heard whether he found it or not, but whether the dog was dead or alive, it has most likely been removed from the island. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |
