I have not fished from a tower boat but have many times from an elevated console and the main advantage I gained from doing so was when drifting shallow clear water sightcasting to redfish. I do not condone gridding the flats or running all day and busting in to schools of fish etc... but I do like riding higher for visibility purposes the extra heighth for me makes it much easier to navigate.
I know there are some guys that will burn for hours down there looking for fish and burning gas, I can probably tell you which boats and who they are too because it is the same ones every time!
I just hope when I buy my new elevated console boat you guys wont run me off the board! LOL!! |

Amen, watch out over in Redfish bay or Aransas bay, whats bad is the guides who are running over all of gods creation and they dont care who they piss off. One day a guide is going to get his engine shot at, and im going to sit back and laugh. |

I think it's rude for these "burner boats" to do what they do... but how do you define it?
what is the actual difference between these guys running around looking for fish (even if they're incosiderate towards other boaters), and people going across the flats to the next spot? |
If they're prefishing w/o fishing rods, I think it's safe to say that they are burning. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

so what we need... is a law that prevents people (without rods) from driving a boat around a flat, and looking around while they're doing it.
I think the best thing to do if you want it to stop is carry a video camera, and tape their actions, and post it around the web, and to their sponsors... sooner or later they will get the point.
We don't need a new law to prevent the actions of every stupid or inconsiderate person. I think it's a poo poo thing to do, I just don't think we need MORE laws on the books for boating regulations that aren't clear cut. |

| I think we could use some no prop zones...but at the same time what if they put someone like Joe Escoto in charge of it? |

I'm w/ you on this one. The law is unclear. That is unfortunate, BUT some one who spends as much time on the water as you do knows the difference btwn crusing around for a boat ride and burning.
I actually enjoy your "Devil's advocate" stance on most issues, but on this one?
You say you've seen them in the hole. Burning in that exact location prompted the state into taking action in the first place.
I'm w/ Stan(and everyone else who enjoys being a part of, rather than attempting to control, the ecosystem).
If you have to chase em down to catch em find a new game.

Burning is where boats that run shallow simply just run the flats in search of red fish. They burn vast amounts of fuel, chomp up the grass, and have no values when it comes to other fishermen as they will cut you off within 50 to 75 yrds or closer. They run right up against the shorelines, and around spoils in hopes of hearding some reds to cast at Usually when a school is located they will run right into it shut down make a mad dash to the bow cast into the school in hope of a quick desperate hookup...its not how you win...its as long as you win. its the only way they can catch fish.
Now take a good fisherman such as topdog or even porkfetus, Capt. mike, these guys can sit back and read the water i'm not saying we don't have to grind every now and then....but its a sport. I bet there has been times when robul has been working the flats then all of the sudden out of the corner of his eye he picks up on that certain ripple in the water. After that its all over and the fight is on. How about them big dust clouds, that skipping shrimp, or just the smell, and then those times when your sences just let you know they are here....its called instinct . Some of us have it, others have big bucks and tower boats and stuffed $80 shirts and still living on dads credit card. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

the only devil's advocate stance I'm taking is against additional regulation.
I'm not advocating people tearing up grass and shorelines in a senseless manner. I'm not advocating general rudeness or idiocy on the water either.
I hate it when people spill sugar at the coffee bar, then drip a little bit of coffee on top of that. They're rude and inconsiderate, but I don't think we need a public ordinance banning the spilling of sugar.
Let's just be realistic for a moment... how would the law work?
the use of a boat to travel in the water for the purpose of finding fish shall not be allowed in water less than 3' deep, further more, any boat traffic that encounters a school of redfish or other herding fish shall immediately turn 180 degrees, and say 10 hail Mary's.
This is just one of those A hole things that people do, and passing a law to try and stop it will ultimately end up placing regulations that will F all of us.... all for the actions of a few bad seeds.
like no skunks says... why are the park rangers being such C suckers right now? Maybe because a few people didn't park where they were supposed to, now we have "new rules", and it's making everyone's life miserable that goes down there. |

That's what I thought, just clarifying it.
I enjoy the heck out of the "hunting" part of fishing, using the signs that you describe. Even in freshwater you can find bream beds by smell! _________________ Dave

Yeah, I ran down to the Badlands for an early morning wade, and I passed by there about 5:15 or so...
You wouldn't believe all of the headlights that were already at BIB wating to launch.
I came back about 9:30 and saw more boats out today than I've seen in any one day this year, and I fish 3-4 days a week.
I think I'm gonna go drink tonight and sleep in tomorrow... |
