Incredibly clear water, no weed at all, and more bait than I've ever seen in the water.
I got to the pier about 7, intending to leave by noon, but ended up staying until almost 6pm. The bite came in spurts. Mid-morning the smacks were hitting watermelon shad under floats....and the smacks were huge. Then just after noon and again about 4pm the kings showed up in force...and they were huge too....and also hitting shad under floats and slide lined. I only ended up with one very large smack, which I gave away to a man from Dallas because, at the end of the day, I was so tired that I didn't want to have to clean it. I had several large kings on....all got away cutting through leaders, even wire wrapped leaders, breaking 20lb line, or actually straightening out/snapping metal clips and crimps. Once I was about to be spooled, so I had to tighten down the drag...metal clip broke. At least I got to see and fight them all before they broke free.
Lots of very nice, helpful people on the pier, and it was very clean too. The new management is doing a good job. |

| After slamming huge smacks up to 30"s mixed in with kings both Mon and Tues, today was a disappointment, no fish for anybody, even the slideliners when I left at 12:30. All the regulars that fish together out there all got skunked, in fact I never saw a smack go after anybody's bait in 4 hrs. No specks biting on slides in the first gut either. Conditions beautiful, except the wind started up from to E to ENE about 5-10 mph instead of SE. Most od the watermelon shad were farther out toward the T today. Maybe tmrw. D&N you picked the right day to stay home. |

| Thanks for the Smack! Got it cleaned and in the freezer before coming home today. Sorry to hear the bite turned off today. The water looked beautiful as we were pulling out of the park. |

| Small world.....Nice to know that the man I gave the smack to is a member of the forum. I need to thank you for warning me that the last king I hooked was about to spool me. I was so busy trying to see where it was going that I hadn't noticed that I was running out of line until you warned me that I was about to get spooled. Like I said...there were a lot of nice people on the pier Tuesday. My experience has been that most fishermen and women are very kind and helpful....especially when someone has a fish on! |

It is a small world. Hopefully my advice to tighten the drag did not keep you from landing it but that spool was getting empty quick. |
