Good report, guys! I haven't been out to the rig yet, but I wanna try it sometime. I'd have to go with a group....like Bid D says. I never have caught a red snapper before. I might be heading to PINS this weekend, but I don't think a rig trip will be viable. Will probably be looking for smacks or reds in the surf...

Try it if the seas are flat....
I tell you what, the sting ray has more impact now that I heard about Steve Irwin. It's unbelievable that happened to him...RIP _________________ No matter where you go, there you are.... |

WHAT RIG DID YALL GO TO!!!
Heck I went to the first rig off pins about 6 miles down or so and saw no one when I got out there. So did I miss out and go to the wrong rig? Did Yall go to the ones off of bobhall pier?
Well I had a great time but wished I could have been there with yall.
I Caught a 30lb ling and some small vermillion snapper and one nice redsnapper. OHHHH!!!! I also saw what was my most intresting site ever in the water, A whaleshark. I was near thr rig about 300yards of and there it was checking me out and sure enough I was like stone when I saw the monster come up next to me. It had to be over 25foot long. I will post more tomorrow about the whole trip.
Well maybe next time guys, I will be down again the 20th-24th of september.
Sounds like everyone had a great day and thats what its all about

Great report...glad to read about all the snapper. We set up camp at the 14 and worked as many pinch's from there to about the 35 that wasn't already taken that we could. All we got were whiting primarily on spoons. Put some on the long rods and set those out and 6 hours later they were still on the hooks alive. Water was so clear Snake saw a few reds and sight casted but no takers. Used to yak about several miles up the Guadalupe as often as possible then drift down for bass but haven't been in one for 7 years. I wouldn't try the rigs unless I made several trips up and down the Guadalupe thru the rapids after a good rain.
Sambo they were right at the 6 all you had to do was spot the truck they mentioned above. _________________ Become a part of the food chain, wade fish.

hey guys well i went out on sat but i didnt see anyone. i asked if you guys were going to the rig infront of bhp and yall said yah but i guess it was the wrong one. anyway i left the sand at 8:15 and made it to the rig at 8:57. it was nice out there except for the big ship that was tied off the rig. i ended up with three snapper and one shark. all in all it was fun just seeing all those fish and getting out. maybe next time ill get to the right rig and meet up with you guys. _________________ Got Beer? |

sorry we missed you guys...we went to the smaller rig to the right of the one at 6mm...not really a drilling rig. I did see a green jeep cherokee that I figured was Sambo's, but there were a bunch of folks in that area so we moved just a bit south, maybe .4 mile. Sambo, you should not go out alone...the whaleshark could have tipped you over and then what would you do?????
Anyway, we will do it again. And driftwood, sorry for the misunderstanding, but I will never go to BHP....I hear more bad stories about the "public" there than good, and PINS has always been fun for us.
I'll post pictures later... _________________ No matter where you go, there you are.... |

Ya I saw that little rig, it is a noisemaker right? Well I contemplated on going there but I figured that it was only a little further to go to the big one. OK alot further at leats it seemd so. It was me and some big nice boats and then some bayboats. One man in a red/white boat was super nice and seemed to keep a look out for me, we chatted briefly and right when everyone left is when I caught the ling. Minutes after that is when I saw the Whaleshark. YA I have done dumber things but I tell ya what that was the only time I felt less than man and more like a minnow. I didnt have any scuba stuf with me or I would have tried to swim with it, what a amazing story that would be.
But yes you are right I should not do that alone, there for I am buying another yak so I will not have to do so.
I will be down again at the end of the month so lets all look for going then if everyones schedules allow and weather as well.
Take care all and I will post pics soon.
