Someone posted somewhere that they got to the pins entrance early on a few occasions and did not have to pay to get in (no one at the gate). I plan on getting there at around 5 am on Sunday. If no one is there can I just drive in and pay when we leave. I have never been that early but I do need a new permit. I will be in a dark green cj7 jeep with no doors or top so if you see me stop for a minute or two if you can. I hope to meet at least one member sometime. Thanks

Nobody will be there. If you choose to pay on the way out you can but usually nobody does. I just buy the yearly permit. I would be glad to pay 3 times the amount of the 20 dollar pass for one year if they would put in more parking spaces reinstitute the 25 mph speed limit on the beach and hire some extra rangers to enforce it.

I would as well Tyler even though I don't get to PINS as often as I would like. I would still pay for it to improve for all of us that use it.

I know that I will not be able to go as far as I want to. Probably be stuck in a line of traffic of 15 mph. I will let all of you know how it turns out.

I always go thru there early (even back when I had my boat) and have yet to see anyone (since at least 99) or pay to go thru there.

Are they gonna rack me if I do not show proof by way of a yearly permit is the question I am asking I guess? Most important is that if you are there and I am not latched on to anything over a pound stop and say hello.

Nah, you wont have to stop on the way out! And they wont ask for it if your already in! If you make it in and dont have to pay, then your home free! Laughing

panthera,

I'll be there tonight about midnight through Monday. In the white Tacoma in the pics on this link:

http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=122130

Feel free to stop by and have a brew if you see me. I'll be somewhere between the blacktop and the PM jetty. Very Happy

If you are 62 or older you can get an entrance pass for $10.00 that is good for the rest of your life at any federal park that charges an entrance fee (including PINS). It also gives you a half price discount for most camping and use fees (including the Bird Island use permit). Total was $15.00. Next year it will be $5.00. Finally, something good about getting old.

I made a special trip out there to get it. I just rolled up there and asked for the old fart pass and she fixed me up. Those girls at the gate are really nice. Too bad they work for a boss that is a ..............well, never mind.

lost of the park rangers are great people, especially the ones at the front gate.. but the politics behind the scense is worse than at a one legged rooster in the hen house.
