(sorry for late report)
Memorial weekend. Saturday in Corpus Christi bay. We just pulled up to a well and on the 1st. cast hooked up. I told my buddy to lay the rod cause a boat was going by. They saw the bent rod and pulled up not 30 yeards away and started chunking croakers. I have no issue with chunking croaker (as I fish arties 99% of the time).
What I do have issues with is someone disrepecting others cause they have clients on board. If the guide was worth his salt wouldn't he have other areas to hit, instead of potlicking a spot we were at and then to cast to the well cutting the guys on our boat off? Just asking, as I know plenty of guides and I know there are bad apples but that just pissed me off like no other. BTW we took some pics and only 1 turned out somewhat decent.
If anybody recognizes the guide let him know pissing off other fisherman is not good business, and could turn into an ugly day real quick. |

This weekend I went out with a guide out of POC on a trip that I won in a raffle. The fishing was slow and the water was crowded. We moved around a lot and more than a few times he pulled up close to where others were fishing. Once he pulled up next to 3 guys wading and he set up for a drift that would have taken us right in front of them. I told him that perhaps we should try somewhere else and come back later. The only time I didn't mind him getting close was when he set up near a boat with 2 girls wearing skimpy bikinis. I would have snapped a few pics but I didn't think the wife would approve. _________________ Give a Man a Fish and he will eat for a day. | Sorry that happened. Unfortunately there are a lot of part time croaker guides around here that seem to come out of the woodwork this time of year that will do whatever it takes to put their clients on some fish. I was wading an area on Sunday and one these "guides" saw me land a nice red so he immediately stops and sets up about 150 yards in front of my wade. He baited up the clients with croaker and cast all 4 rods and then gave to them to the clients and showed them them how to do the "croaker shake". Needless to say, he spooked every fish in the area, so I moved on to my next spot and finished my limit. |

| I would crank up my boat and make a couple of circles around them and open it up and leave at full plane . |

Dang, that blows. If that's all you need to do to be a guide, I think I could be one! LOL. _________________ Jeff

The percentage of "visitors" who come down to fish only with artificial this time of year is small. I try hard to stick with artificial only, but again, the market is not big. Many guides are staying off the water on weekends now, and this leaves the door open for part time guides to book a charter here and there. I can understand trying to scratch out a box of fish and burning water to find fish, but the potlicking is discourteous. It's tough to catch fish when a boat moves in on you and sucks fish in with croaker. _________________ Grind |

thats why you should keep a rod on hand with 30# line and a 4oz surf weight. Cast over all lines and reel like hell _________________ where did i catch those fish? corner of the mouth in the water |

Lets think about this in a real world manner. First there has been shootings in churches, mcdonalds, gas stations, road rage shootings,, shootings in the home, at the bank, there's been shootings at dunkin doughnuts, even at school shootings rule, its just a matter of time. BOOM one less out a town guide to pull along side. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

When I opened this up, I thought it was gonna be a guide to potlicking, not a thread about a potlicking guide!
Darn it! That would have been good!

Step 6: Wave as if you don't know whats going on |

| I thought everyone fished the bent rod pattern! Apparently, it's quite productive cause it happens quite a bit. |
