The very last time that I actally visited and fished with some of you good folks down on PINS and Gorda some four years ago Flak is one of ther ones that really stands out in my memories. Now I am slowly making my way back from from my own hell and this is one of the first things I read about. Man, what a sad day for anyone who ever had the privilage to spend any thime at all with this unique individule. I for one will never forget the man that showed me the way to properly toss a 9 foot cast net in the surf. Rest in peace buddy......tell Artie whats up. Cool

Lynn... aka the other white meat.

More from Ms. Deana. I spoke to her last night and she said don't worry about getting dressed up in fact Larry would hope to see some of his buddies wearing shorts and Tivas. This is NOT a funeral but a celebration of his life.

Dr. Jerry Neff will preside over the celebration of Larry's life, which will be held Friday, May 29 at First United Methodist Church-Conroe at 4309 W. Davis (Highway 105), Conroe, Texas 77304. A reception will be held from 11am to 1pm, with the celebration to begin at 1pm. Honorary Pallbearers are: Brent Dworaczyk, Harry Dearing, James Tuppin, Tyler Thorsen, Chris Mayo, Roland Beck, Josephine Miller, Dinah Bowman, and in memoriam Rene Gauthier.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Corpus Christi API, Post Office Box 9235, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78496, for a scholarship fund in Larry's name for a petroleum engineering student at Texas A&M. Please specify on the check that it is in Memory of Larry Flak or Flakman.

Tyler - still looking for pics. Please tell Deana that we just can't make it down as our time must be applied to Ryan's treatments at MDA. What was going to be 1 week of treatment followed by 3 weeks of rest is now 1 followed by only 2. We will be heading down on 10 June to stay with him during the last part of the week of that infusion treatment, then wait until he recovers sufficiently to take him back to his mother's in SA. Please convey to her our deepest sympathies, and thank her for the prayers that Larry sent a couple weeks ago for Ryan. We will both miss Flak dearly! One can never, ever forget that laugh of his. I hear it now, what a memory, I will cherish that forever. Deana - if you read this - our prayers go out to you to take comfort in having shared a life with a great individual. We revel in the good times we had with him.

Will do BB. Nick told me Deana said there will be another smaller memorial in a month or so. Prayers to Ryan.

I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Flakman. Even though I never met Larry, I did exchange a couple of posts with him on this board and hoped to one day finally meet him. He was one of the first fellow surf fishermen I learned about on the internet when I first acquired service some 12 yrs ago and found the old SFCCI message board.

I personally lost my only sibling, my sister two weeks ago, and know the hurt.

Que descanse en paz.

Tyler, did you get the pics I e-mailed from work this afternoon? In looking at them I realized that we were working so hard catching reds that Flak had taken off his Boot 'n Coots overalls before that last one that wore him out. I sent them to you, Screemin Reel, and Skippy on the chance tyhat one of you might get them in time. Let me know, one of you. Thanks.

Osomoose, I can certainly sympathize with you. Lost my younger brother in '96 and my older sister just 8 months later. Just me left now, and Mom, plus my wife and young 'uns. Difficult to think of what I'll miss in retirement without them.

Hi,
I am posting from the Holiday Inn Express in Conroe. After about a five hour trip we made to Larry's Celebration Service. Several hundred people showed up including Skipper and Karen, Kelle and I, and Screeminreel and Sweetie, SherryB, and Gundoctor. The reception was nice seeing old friends and meeting some of Larry's work friends and relatives. There were lots of pictures of Larry. Then it was on to the actual service at 1pm in the Sanctuary. The minister did a nice job and some of Larry's friends including Catherine had some nice things to say about him. She met Larry and Deana through the Houston Parrotheads. Then his brother Ricky Flak, as he called him, spoke about how it was when he and Larry grew up. That was some truly funny stuff including a bit about how when he and Larry were in 5th and 6th grade in the Cub Scouts how they had to do a presentation on poster board on the some of the pledges the scouts do. They chose reverence. To help things out Larry's Mom gave each of the boys a bible, but much to Mrs. Flak's and the other den mother's surprise instead of being on reverence, Larry had made a chart of all of the historical inaccuracies in the bible such as Bethlehem not being in Israel because Israel wasn't formed until the 20th Century - classic engineer Flakman Stuff! LOL Smile Larry always spoke fondly of his little brother as a former Navy Seal but what he didn't tell me that I found out today that his brother was inserted into the "operation" in Iran in 1979 during Jimmy Carter's failed rescue attempt for the hostages in the American Embassy. It turns out the US politicans, wanting to wash their hands of that mistake, hung Ricky Flak and another Navy seal out to dry and left them on their own. They were captured and sent to a Shiite prison. Ricky's fellow seal eventually died in the prison but Ricky managed to escape and fled to the mountains and virtually walked 600 miles out of Iran to safety. Cool Stuff. It was really funny and sad at the same time, especially looking at those pictures of Larry and I in Venezuela and with Ms. Deana, Zachary and Miss Ruby.

God Speed Larry!

About down for the count. This whole deal is sort of cathartic but at the same time upsetting. I keep expecting to see Larry walk around the corner in his overalls with a cigar and a cubra libra with a big old Larry laugh. It is what is hard to wrap your brains around him not being here to be host.
