I know somebody out there either has built one or knows someone who has. I'm talkin about an ice chest with speakers and usually a car stereo head unit and a big battery in it. Most of the time you see em while floatin the river. Makin one myself and tryin some different stuff out and would like a little input from anybody who's got one. Mainly I want to know what kind of battery your using. Holler back if ya know anything. _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. he has to be using a 12volt, especially if its an auto radio. if he is using a 110 volt radio...then he has a power inverter inline. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

12 volt is definitely the way to go. I'm tryin to get away from using something huge like the blue top Optimas I've seen people use. Tryin to keep weight down as much as I can. _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. | Any 12 volt battery will power it up and run it for a while. Get as high amp hours as you can find something like 17 ~ 20 amp hours. |

Final goal? To have a really expensive cooler! It's for floatin the Frio mainly. All the ones I've seen so far aren't made to still function as a cooler. My goal is to build one that you can still put ice and drinks, etc. in. I'm puttin four 6 1/2" speakers and a little amp(all marine grade) in it and hooking an ipod straight into the amp. And I'm tryin to put as small a battery as I can get away with in it to save weight. I'm also puttin a solar panel on it to keep the battery charged. _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. Well I was a Bluffian for a time. Glenn Oak townhouses was my haunt for a couple years. It's got redneck hall of fame written all over it if it turns out the way I'm thinking it will.
P.S. I miss my 2 a.m. trips to HEB in the Bluff, you never know who/what you'll see. _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. I was only asking because if you just want great sounding tunes for YOU, the Ipod and headset sure is easy. Now if you want everyone else on the river to have to listen to your selections [ ] I guess you are on the right track!
Any decent amp will drain a small 12 volt battery fairly quickly. There's no free lunch: If you want long juice from moderate/high draw loads you need a deep cycle battery. _________________ Dave

| dont waste your time with an amp. A decent radio will have enouph power to make a pair of 6x9s plenty loud enouph to get you a nice $$ citation.. Dont ask me how I know.. |

probally be way easier to just make the sound system separate in a smaller ice chest and small tube. how do you plan to keep the liquid away from the electronics in an all-in-one cooler/sound system. and what about the rapids? saying that, I doubt the Frio has much in the way of any fast water this year. in fact, yall'll prolly do as much walkin'/dragin' as floatin'.
maybe a smaller cooler with bevs inside of a bigger one with the tunes. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Haven't worked out all the details but my goal is to make everything waterproof in the inside cuz an ice chest that can't hold beer...well we just can't have that now can we. And yeah I've seen that radio raft thing, that's alot more than I wanna spend. _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean.
