I went fishing today and caught some fish! David Sikes called me at 9 last night looking for someone to go on an airboat trip with Capt. Shorty Smith in the back lakes out of Goose Island. I threw caution to the wind not hearing from my boss at all last Friday after finishing my sound project. We caught plenty of reds and I had a blast my first time in an airboat. Look for the complete story in this Sunday's sport section of the award winning Corpus Christi Caller Times.
I didn't catch the most fish but I did catch the biggest Very Happy

TYLER

What did you want to see me about, Mr. Leland?

LELAND

Tyler, I've.. been reviewing your work.. Quite frankly, it stinks.

TYLER

Well, I ah.. been havin' trouble at home and uh.. I mean, ah, you know, I'll work harder, nights, weekends, whatever it takes..

LELAND

No, no, I don't think that's going to, do it, uh. These reports you handed in. It's almost as if you have no business training at all..

I don't know what this is supposed to be!

TYLER

Well, I'm uh, just--tryin' to get ahead..

LELAND

Well, I'm sorry. There's just no way that we could keep you on.

TYLER

I don't even really work here!

LELAND

That's what makes this so difficult.

LOL! As a matter of fact it did take a while. He called me Sunday night and I had no time to sort out my regular gear. I used a spinning rod I won at the API tournament and a Daiwa BG 15 loaded with only 8lb stren (The rig I let the Kiwis use when we fished with Sikes last August). I also brought along my Abyu Revo on my FTU coastal rod. It has a fast tip and is good for topwaters and tails down to 1/4 ounce. Well, the jigs that we used were 1/8 ounce or less and I backlashed that reel a bunch. The spinner was okay but I am so spoiled by Power pro and Fireline that it felt like mush when trying to feel bites and the lure working.

Oh heck, i thought this was an attempt at satire. I had no idea Tyler actually went fishing. WOW... way to go Thorsen. Now go rig up a rod & reel for bay fishing so you won't look like a dufus in your next photo op with Sikes.

LMAO

That's why I was all thumbs, I am not used to playing with those girly bay outfits that weigh 13 ounces rod included. I am an old school round reel guy. Using a 6500 Abu for a Bay and Surf trout reel is more my speed. The ergonomic reels that are shaped like a bar of soap don't do it for me Smile

DOOD.... I am so with you there. I do believe I gave you a damn near new Cardiff because I couldn't cast that one without a birdsnest. I would love to have my old 6500 today and then put it on a 8' G Loomis custom rod. That would be so sweet.

That is why I use my Okuma Epixor 30 spinning reels today. I can't throw these new baitcasters for crap into a wind.

I've known "Shorty" for a long, long time.

Not only is he a great fisherman, he was a damn good cowboy too!

Great to see him doing what he loves!
