Hey guys wanted some of your ideas for transforming my boats 94 quart ice cest into a live well for bait fish. Any ideas on how to do this? Pictures would also be a good help if you have some. thanks.

I'm running an oxygen system. They work great, and no need for power. One tank lasts forever. . . got the setup at south texas trolling motors on SPID.

if you can't afford a oxy system ......get a good bubble system they actually work especially in a cooler be cause they stay cooler, plus a frozen bottle of ice works good too on a hot day to keep the water temps down. One important thing.....keep your hands clean no sun screen in the water. Stuff like that is an automatic bait killer. Wink

They sell "bubblers" at roy's (site sponsor). It's a small pump contained in plastic w/ a tube that attaches to an air stone. They range from ten bucks on up. Simply put batteries in it and turn it on. Instant oxygen.
If you go the other (more expensive) route, you will need an oxygen bottle, regulator, hose and stone. You can mount the bottle on the ice chest.

they also have bubble systems that hook up to 12volt systems. Just drill a 1/4 hole in the cooler where you want the air hose to go through. its pretty simple.

Good tip on the ice bottle. Can be tough to keep shrimp/croakers alive during the hot months from what I found last summer. I probably could have had them rig a bubbler. . . but I thought the oxygen system was too cool to pass up.

yeah, seems to work well. for the record, snooker-ed filled it full of bait the night before we went offshore. cracked the O2 bottle and went to bed. 24 hours later (we didn't use up the bait), everything was still lively. hard to complain about that!

Thanks guys. Im getting some good ideas and thanks to you all for that. Im going to see what they can do for me at south texas trolling motors and see what they do. i guess the drilling and attaching a tube inside the icecest is the easy and cheap way. Thanks

The cooler water thing is a very simple way to help the livewell residents out: The colder the water temp the more dissolved oxygen it can carry. I freeze Gatorade bottles and use them when fishing for lots of things. A great multi purpose money saver when it comes to ice too! Cool

You can get a 12 voly battery and a floating air pump for about $55.00 all in. Get the pump at Roys for $35.00 and about $20.00 for the battery at CC battery on Ayers. Throw in some frozen water bottles if you want to keep the water cool.

Frayed - PM me with the info on your system. Since I am going to have time to fish this year I am going to get one......

A little trick I have used to cool off the baitwell is simply put two or three cold sodas or beers out of your ice chest in the live well. After you've cooled the water down a bit take them out rinse them off in the bay and put them back in your cooler. Works great if you forgot your bottles of ice.

I think you can pick up a small torch oxygen bottle for under $100, with regulator. I imagine all you need to do is rig it up with an airstone.
