Good job calling it in. That's the main reason I don't fish piers anymore. I got sick of watching it happen. These are the same guys that leave their discarded 100lb test line and (usually broken) beer bottles right on the ground at the water's edge. It's disgusting.

the same thing happen to me when i was fishing off reddot pier a couple of weeks ago. i had caught and released a few oversize drum already and everyone would look at me like i was crazy for throwing them back. i noticed some guys keeping their over size drum in an ice chest, i called game theft and denied the reward also, a game warden came out and checked all ice chest on the piers including mine, i told her i was the one who called and pointed out the guys who were keeping the drum. she caught them and ticked them. im only 23 and i want to be able to enjoy the fight of these big uglies for the rest of my life.

good job.. How long did it take the warden to show up?

I have an oversized Red on my wall that I was "told" to mount when I was fishing at a resort of sorts by the guide...didn't want to but - my point is ..... a long time ago I saw a canvas on a gys wall that was framed that had a painted sail fish on it - guy told me that he had the canvas on the deck, somehow he painted one side of the fish with a greyish paint to make an imprint of the fish, laid it on the canvas, took a picture, and threw it back. He had some guy paint the fish in color from the pic over the grey paint

Anybody heard of this? No way this would work in my Jon boat, all those cans roll'n around, and my boat leaks...hell that's why I kiss'm n throw'm back.

Good call Rob.
I would discourage personally initiating communication on the topic of illegal harvest of fish w/ most of the people in question. They are usually the three scariest lookin dudes on the pier, blatantly intoxicated, and often carrying knives. I think you did the right thing by calling it in and letting it go.
That said, I have personally confronted people on numerous occasions and have fortunately only had a few negative encounters, but afterwards I always thought to myself how much worse the situation could have gotten.

Good call in the more we do to stop this, the better next trip will be... hopefully! Smile

Don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but one drum over 52" can be retained each day as part of the daily bag limit. why you would want a drum that big beats the crap outta me, but it's the law.

Current state record Black Drum.....51.18" length.....81.00lb.

I would think that you can keep one over 52" so you can have a shot at a new state record.

It allows for a chance to beat the current state record black drum that was 51.18 inches long. (Captain Mike beat me to it but that is the reasoning).

I would commend anyone for making that call. Good job Rob. The going rate on that reward is up to $500 (depends on what the ticket is given for).

FYI the 6 Black drum I caught (all 36"+) in Copano/Aransas for my thesis work only two had worms. In the wormy fish there was roughly a 2 inch area near the tail that chad worms the rest of the fish was fine.
Great job on calling OGT Robul! They will get caught eventually. Jason Slocum

My son works at Cos and I can assure you he has the number programed in his phone. The guys that work in the bait house just can't be policing the clientele all the time. When he can, he calls the warden and at this point she knows him by name.

I fished the pier about three weeks ago and these guys would run up to you when you got one in and beg you to give it to them. Don't do it as you will be the one getting the fine.

yep I can understand that and that's very commendable of your son to make the call when he can. Good Job teaching him well.
