Brother Marty made the trek from ATX to CC for a couple of days fishing.

Monday, we stayed 6 miles South of BHB on the beach. Surf was beutiful, as I got the Kayak and the shark baits out with relative ease...

Not a bump. Shrimp on the hook was sitting untouched for hours at a time,

Except for a couple of big perch, and usual tiny whiting, nothing.

We regroup Tuesday and head to the bay. After spending all morning at three spots, including Wilson cut, the beach at Mustang Island, Fish pass, nothing to speak of. Marty did manage to lose the Kayak, as it drifted off twoards Port A off the Wilson Cut road, a very nice man with an inflatable pontoon boat set off and retrieved it. An hour later, he returned with it !

We go to Pacakery Channel Park. Lots of people fishing. At 3:30, we hook into a monster school of Sheepshead !! All caught on dead shrimp on tiny circle hooks. A total of 10 keepers sheepshead, one keeper spec, and one nice blak drum !

Kudos to the "Bait Bucket", as the "dead shrimp" they sold us, was still alive in the bag until the end of the day !

Yo Sherkus!

Greetings from the foreign nation of Austin, Texas. Good to see your reports, old friend. I like a mess of sheepshead now and then. Excellent fish for smoking, by the way.

I don't know why anyone would refer to Marty as a tourist simply because he's living in Austin these days, or turned his back on an unsecured kayak at just the wrong moment. It could happen to anyone on a windy day if they're not careful. Bet he doesn't make that mistake again. Good reason to keep a rod rigged with a spoon or something heavy with treble hooks.

I bought a 1995 34 ft. Airstream trailer last week. If I can get through the border guards down there, I wanna load up the kayak and haul the rig down for some extended fishing this spring. It's too nice to risk taking it to the beach. Got any suggestions for nearby, other than the state park?

By the way, Sherkus, here's a pic of that 42 incher I caught from the kayak in the Lydia Ann last trip. Nothing wrong with tagging an occasional bull red. Tasted just fine, though the texture is certainly different that a 20 incher. Smoked it. Had steaks once, and put the remainder in an awesome gumbo.

Thats a big red Tommy. Who took the photo for you? If you did it yourself, your a magician.

Nice.

I caught and released a 42, off BHP couple of weeks back. Hit cut whiting.

Just so you know, the slots have been happening all winter long at "the spot" near Wilson Cut. Have had a hard time cathing finger mullet, but larger mullet cut up have worked just fine, in fact almost better than live bait, as I can chunk a piece of cut half a mile !!!

Cheers!
