Commissioner John Parker was a giant at TPWD. He had vowed to help with a fix for red snapper and had trveled to Washington in our behalf.
I am devastated. Alex his son just called me a few minutes ago. |

Commissioner John Parker
I just want to take a few minutes and share with everyone how important Commissioner Parker was to each of us. He was a true Sportsman. He was one of the men that helped Duck Unlimited and numerous conservation organizations get a firm foot hold in Texas for their inception. Commissioner Parker gave his time to causes he believed in.
Single handedly he jumped into the Red Snapper fray. Commissioner Parker helped push
For leaving State Waters open for Texans. He attended functions with me to speak to Members of Congress in an effort to solve the Red Snapper problems. He had the ear of Governor Perry and talked to him often about our plight. Commissioner Parker had set a meeting with Chairwoman Bardalo on the Fisheries sub committee in Congress to push for a fix for Magnuson. He asked Madam Chair for Congressional hearings in Texas and was promised those vital hearings.
Commissioner Parker understood what it would take to fix the Magnuson act so that we could extend our fishing season. Commissioner Parker was a true champion when our fishing rights were in jeopardy.
Commissioner Parker visited all of the State Parks to ask staff how he could help them. He took his appointment by Governor Perry very seriously. When asked to look into something he always had the time. He told me that was his job and never hesitate to ask.
I am leaving out so much as my mind is fractured at this point with the loss of a great
Friend.
Commissioner Parker worked tirelessly for all sportsmen sun up to sun down. He will be sorely missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Parker, Alex and the Parker Family. I thank them for sharing Commissioner Parker with the sporting community for the time we had him as we were all truly blessed to have such a caring ,devoted and giving man speaking out for us. |
