Bluffer, I thought you might enjoy this. As I was driving home from PINS this afternoon, I noticed a brand new Ford 4X4 coming the other way down the road by Whitecap Blvd and it was white with the blue graphics and I said to myself " well the police got another new beach patrol truck " WRONG!! As I got closer, I noticed the words PARKING ENFORCEMENT written down the side inside the blue stripe.. I guess we know where that BS $12.00 beach parking sticker money is going, not to mention the money from the outrageous fines they are handing out. But hey, we still got our three skid-o-cans and a few trash cans on the beach.. Got to love the good old city of cc....NOT
later,
Ernie

P.S. I have bought a sticker every year that they have been out. 2008 was my last.

The permits are a little BS but be happy you can drive on the beach and it only costs $12 once a year........we are spoiled! Most places you cant drive, camp or have fires on the beach with out a bunch of permits every time you want to go........if you can do it at all!

The bad thing is.....those 3 holers and trash cans are a lot older than that $12.00 fee.....What is this money supposed to go to?

Put a freedom of information act request in for a detailed copy of their budget, statistics on enforcement, vehicle purchases, etc. Red tape and BS can work in 2 directions Wink Once you request this type of information via proper channels, they are legally bound to furnish the said reports. It is often a real PITA for them too.

Enjoy,
Michael

At the original J.P. Luby Surf Park (which is now the south side of Packery between the south jetty and the seawall), there were some outdoor showers back by the pavilion and there was a nice skid-o-can about every 100 yards and located within 150 yards or so of the waterline. At least back then your wife and kids did not have to hike 1/2 mile to use the restroom. All of that was destroyed when the city ripped out the park. You could take a short walk and rinse your children off. The Pavilion made a nice shaded picnic area as well. Nothing fancy but at least it was something. Maybe Mr. French can elaborate but I suspect that those facilities were paid for by our tax dollars when the park was originally built back in the 1980's. IMHO, the $12.00 parking fee is nothing more than a way to pay for somebody's salary, company car, and cell phone. And yes, we sure do have it better than most people around the country who are getting ahem...burned worse than us but it don't make it right. Is it not our public beach that we own in the first place? It's not a parking lot for God's sake, it is a State beach...Oh well, at least Shatlickster didn't get it....YET But it sure looks like McCrotchen is working on that...
later,
Ernie
